Fraud & Investigations

There has been a growing awareness of the

risks and incidence of fraud in private and

public sector organisations throughout

Ireland. Where fraud has been detected and

the organisation are seeking redress in the

courts it is important that they use a firm of

forensic accountants who understand the

principles of evidence gathering and

discovery to ensure that their case is as

robust as possible.

Financial institutions such as banks and

leasing companies engage forensic

accountants to assist with asset recovery

and insolvency cases. In addition there are

a number of government agencies such as

Revenue Commissioners, Financial Regulator,

Competition Authority and the Office of the

Director of Corporate Enforcement (ODCE)

who actively investigate instances where

fraud is suspected.

Our services in this area include

the following;

• Investigation of suspected or

known fraud

Global Reach

International and commercial disputes may

require work to be carried out in different

jurisdictions. Through the Moore Stephens

International network we can provide

information and carry out local

investigations without incurring expensive

travel costs. Where major assignments

require senior members of the team to

travel, we will draw wherever possible, on

the local support of junior staff from a local

Moore Stephens International member firm

to ensure that the assignments are carried

out in the most cost effective way.

In recent years Moore Stephens

International member firms have

collaborated on major forensic accounting

assignments in;

• Ireland

• United Kingdom

• USA

• Australia

• South Africa

• France

• Greece

• Hong Kong

• Singapore

• Norway

• Tanzania

• Tenerife

Our Approach

We work across a broad range of

commercial matters completing expert

opinion reports and investigations across a

variety of industries. We adopt a consistent

and methodical approach to our work

which is as follows;

• Initial assessment - Identification of issues

• Review available financial information

• Assistance with discovery

• Compilation of detailed calculations and

financial models to assist in determination

of the issue

• Preparation of report

• Meet solicitor/barrister

• Meet other expert witnesses

• Presentation of expert evidence

and opinion

All of our forensic assignments are partner

led and there is a high level of partner

visibility and involvement in each case.

Our expert reports are prepared in a

structured manner to ensure that they are;

• Logically presented and indexed

• Easy to read with a minimum of financial

and technical jargon

• Illustrated with graphs and charts

where appropriate

Initial Consultation

In many cases forensic accountants are

sought at a late stage in proceedings. In our

experience the early involvement of forensic

accountant can have an impact on the

direction and outcome of a case, particularly

during discovery. On occasions you may

require clarification regarding the feasibility

of the specific services you require. We are

available to provide a no cost initial

consultation to review the matter with

you and explore the areas we can be

of assistance.

We are well aware of the pressures of

litigation and the essential needs of court

imposed deadlines. Beyond that, we also

appreciate the ultimate client’s expectations.

We are aware of the fluid nature of cases,

and will ensure that the instructing legal

team are kept fully informed, and therefore

in control, of the work we have done and

the costs incurred.
