REPRINTED FROM eading interior design architects, Tuller/McNealus/ Feld, have just completed the New York offices of WGSN.com, a global online fashion research and forecasting firm. Tuller/McNealus/Feld’s design for WGSN’s new space at 130 Fifth Avenue draws inspiration from the nature of their client’s business – predicting ‘the next big thing’ for the apparel industry. The result is a work environment that reflects the constantly changing fashion world by never looking the same from one moment to the next. An innovative selection of reflective materials in the office’s public areas manages to achieve that effect. The entrance lobby ceiling is sheathed 3-Form, a resin material, whose kaleidoscopic colors shift from light and iridescent during the daytime to dramatic and edgy during the night. The floor is made from sheet vinyl that radiates the same pearlescent quality. Together, these reflective materials play off one another shifting and changing their hue as the day progresses. The 3-Form ceiling and vinyl floor stretch down a long hallway designed to evoke a fashion show runway. The hallway angles into the main space, allowing for two irregularly-shaped conference rooms to be created along the partition walls. These off-kilter elements were designed by T/M/F’s owner, Andrew M. Tuller, AIA, and Principal and Design Director, Elvira Gershengorn, to inject further dynamism into the space. “WSGN’s open-minded outlook with respect to the design process made it possible for us to develop and incorporate unique design elements throughout the space,” said Andrew Tuller, AIA, whose firm had previously designed offices for WGSN.com’s parent company, European media conglomerate, Emap.
