PRINCIPAL’S REPORT School Development Day All staff returned to school on the 28th January and I am pleased to share that we have started the term strong with all staff engaging in mandatory professional learning to ensure we operate a safe school. We strengthened our learning journey together as we continue to develop a common language for all our students across all subject areas to teach explicitly and transparently. We focussed on setting challenging learning tasks for students and consolidated our understanding and knowledge in positive behaviour for learning. We want our students to know what is expected from them in each class and for them to develop the skill to persevere, communicate with respect, never give up and build resilience in their learning capacity. Our success in these significant strategies is measured by all students achieving growth in their learning. If your child is not progressing, then the first person to contact at our school is your child’s Year Adviser. Together we will work at as a team to support our students, your child to achieve their goals. Welcome Back to School I officially welcome all staff and students back to our great school. In particular, I welcome Year 7 to the school who have presented well and continue to impress our staff. All students from Year 7 to Year 12 were dressed immaculately in school uniform and that showcased a strong sense of belonging and leadership. Belonging is a critical ingredient for success at school so keep up the great work and stay in uniform. More importantly, we need our students to wear their black leather shoes to access the full curriculum. Every student in the school can show leadership by doing what is expected. That is, wear uniform, come to school with correct equipment and be ready to learn and follow teacher directions. In many ways, it is this informal display of leadership that strengthens our reputation in the community and therefore creates opportunities for our students post schooling. New Staff I welcome the following staff to our school this year. Ms Sally Bray Miss Amy Adams Mrs Anna Hull Science/Math Teacher HSIE Teacher Creative and Performing Arts Teacher New Roles This term Mrs Debra Slack-Smith continues to act as Head Teacher English and has the dual role as Deputy Principal Instructional Leader, Mrs Susan Larkings is Acting Head Teacher Mathematics, Ms Pamela McConnell is Head Teacher Wellbeing and the Girls Adviser for 2020 is Mrs Kimberley Jackson. RoSA BBQ – Meet and Greet Year 7 parents (3:30-4:30pm) Did you know that the Year 10 NSW School Certificate was abolished at the end of 2011? It was replaced in 2012 with the RoSA. Nevertheless, even today there are still many people in the community that do not know this. So, save the date – 25 February 2020. I invite all parents/carers and students to join us for a BBQ to meet-and-greet with our staff. Have a friendly chat to see how your children are settling in. In particular, I plan to deliver a short presentation to our community to explain the first four years of High School works towards achieving their first credential, Record of School Achievement (RoSA). The BBQ kicks off at 3:30pm and the presentation is scheduled from 3:50pm. I hope you can all be there. More information about the RoSA can be accessed from https://educationstandards.nsw.edu.au/wps/portal/nesa/11-12/leaving-school/record-of-school-achievement S. Bristina
