We were encouraged to reflect on our accomplishments both personally and professionally and consider how women strive for equity in today’s society. Staff and st udents attending the breakfast heard from inspirational women living and working in our community. The women shared their stories with humility and humour, and it is my hope that the take away message for our students attending this morning was that we should expect nothing less than equity, there is “no battle of the sexes”, we should strive for respectful relationships both personally and professionally. Participation Organising staff and students to attend and support community events requires team work. At Forbes High School we work together to provide opportunities for all students to participate in a vast range of cultural and sporting activities. In the last few weeks we have had teams travelling for netball, soccer, indoor cricket, lawn bowls, IWD Breakfast. Within the school our students. Have been working with our primary schools to provide enrichment activities in our LEEP program, FHS Leadership Program and STEAM Punk for junior girls, OPTUS Thumbprint Digital presentations for Years 7 to 10 and the CSU Chemistry Day. We also received two letters from Principals commending our students on their conduct and participation during this time. Professional Learning Behind the scenes our staff have also participated in a combined 190 hours of professional learning. We are committed to providing our students with the tools to become life-long learners and we role model this for our students with our everyday practice. In classes students are becoming familiar with learning intentions and success criteria. By sharing this information with students, they know exactly what they need to achieve by the end of the lesson and how to demonstrate this new learning. Staff are involved in professional learning triads and conduct regular classroom observations and feedback sessions. Both staff and students have embraced this new learning and Mr Daniel West and I will be presenting our school journey so far with colleagues from the Griffith cohort on Tuesday. In Summary Each day I have the tremendous privilege to see students and staff reach their goals, overcome challenges and embrace change and I extend my thanks to parents, carers and members of our learning community for their support. “TELL THEM FROM ME” STUDENT FEEDBACK SURVEY (TERM 1, 2019)

This term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school.

The survey is confidential, conducted online and typically will take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 11 March and 12 April. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.

A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with students. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by Friday 15th March. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from:

http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.

The consent form and FAQs are available in 23 languages.
