Super Set for /s/Instructions and Ideas for Use

Picture Cards – Picture cards are a super way to have students practice speech sounds at the word level and are particularly helpful for students who are not yet reading. Use them as stimuli for general games, make two copies of them to use as a matching game, or just have each student go through a stack of them trying to get as many correct as possible.

Word Cards – These words cards are great for students who are working at the word level and can read. They can be used in the same ways as the pictures cards.

Game Boards – Picture-based, sound-focused game boards are a useful tool to have in your bag of tricks. Older and younger students enjoy them, and they are a fun way to start or end a therapy session. They also can serve as a great practice activity to send home.

Silly Soup – This activity uses pictures cards and a bowl for initial /s/ repetitions. See the specific instructions included on the first page.

Practice Grids – These are definitely a "go to" material that can be used in many different ways. They are fantastic for practicing the same words over multiple sessions or for sending home with the student to practice between sessions. There are boxes after eachimage, which are perfect for putting stickers in or for keeping track of data with tally marks, etc.

Rebus Sentences – Rebus sentences are a great way to begin getting sound productions at the sentence level, even with non-readers or beginning readers. Their predictability allows even young children to produce basic sentences without a model. They can be used as whole pages or can cut apart into sentence strips.

Sound Sentences – These sentences are perfect for students who are ready to work on their sound in all positions of words at the sentence level. The number of target sounds in each sentence is indicated on the card. This is helpful for tracking data, but can also be used for game points or moves on a game board.

Picture Boards with Directions to Follow – This activity combines articulation practice and basic language skills. It keeps students thinking while giving them multiple opportunities to practice their target sound on each turn. The student looks at the picture board while you read a direction (e.g., "Find and name the animals."). He/She names as many items as possible that fit the description. If the student is working at the sentence level, have him/her answer in a sentence.

Scavenger Hunt – Use this list and take your students outside on a sound-related scavenger hunt! Review the list when you're done and have the students say all of the items they found and those they didn't. It can also be sent home as a fun practice activity.

Connect Games – There are instructions included on each page.

Tic Tac Toe - There are instructions included on each page.

Silly Soup ActivityInstructions

What You’ll Need:

• a bowl (paper or plastic is fine)• Silly Soup picture cards (printed on cardstock, if possible, and cut apart)

How to Play:

1. Place the bowl in the middle of the table.

2. Place the Silly Soup picture cards face down in a stack in the middle of the table.

3. On each turn, the players pick a card, turn it over, and say, "I put (picture on card) in my silly soup," and then put it in the bowl.

4. Once all of the pictures have been added to the bowl, stir it up and let them “serve” it. The players take turns pulling a cardout and saying, “I’m serving silly soup with (picture on card)” and then put it in front of them.
