The Revelation of Islam to Muhammad

the Muslim Holy Text the Qur’an

Muhammad’s Message•Islam is a monotheistic religion, this means that its followers believe in only one God•Muslims use the Arabic word for God – Allah•Muslims pray to the same God as Christians and Jews

Arabs believed that Abraham built the Ka’aba at a spot where a meteorite fell. The stone is

still there today. Since then it has been a religious shrine for various religions.

•Muhammad continued preaching in Medina•He became the political and religious leader of Medina.

•The Muslims of Medina fought the Meccans•After several victories Muhammad defeated his opposition

Muhammad Returns to Mecca•Muhammad takes control of Mecca and sets up an Islamic society there.•He goes to the Ka’aba and smashes the idols symbolically replacing the old religion with Islam
