We are seeing an increasing use of Southwire’s new self-grounding metal clad cables, MC AP (All Purpose), and HCF MC AP (Hospital Care Facility), also commonly referred to as “MC Smart” cable. This is due to the 20-30% installation time savings, which complements the time saving and high performance features our T&B TITE-BITE connectors have. The installation time savings is because the labor-intensive ground wire make-up inside the box has been eliminated. This is accomplished because the MC AP cable is constructed with an integral grounding wire that stays in contact with the armor over the whole length of cable, allowing it to be self-grounding. This also saves space in the box and reduces stress on the electrical connections. Last year, our Technical Liaison, Southaven Test Laboratory, Engineering, and Marketing groups met with Southwire Management to discuss their MC AP and HCF MC AP cable future. They told us because of good sales growth and End-User demand, they would be adding larger sizes of the new MC AP and HCF MC AP cable. We tested our TITE-BITE connectors on the new cables and we are happy to let you know that we are now UL Listed for these new larger cable sizes, as well as the smaller 14/2 trade size. MC AP cable connectors are UL Listed to a specific cable diameter range over the cable’s armor and not the trade size/# of conductors, i.e. 14/2. For example, catalog number 2492 is UL Listed for a range of .399 - .433 inches. The actual over armor diameter of the cable for a given wire fill, such as 14/2 MC-AP, can vary based on the manufacturing tolerance. Attached are tables taken from the Southwire website, www.southwire.com , that identify T&B TITE-BITE connectors UL Listed for MC AP and HCF MC AP . These tables only identify the nominal over armor diameter of the cables. The T&B table provided shows the complete UL listed range for T&B TITE-BITE connectors, and how our UL Listed range bridges the different MC AP cable sizes. For example, Southwire’s data table lists T&B #3110-TB for 12/3 (.445” OD), but our UL Listed table shows that both our #2492 (.427”-.435”) and 3110-TB (.445”-.463”) connectors are UL Listed for 12/3 depending on what size Southwire manufactures the cable. From our Corporate to Corporate relationship with Southwire, we have stayed ahead of our competition on TITE-BITE UL Listings for these new larger MC AP and HCF MC AP cable sizes. So, please use this head start and the attached UL Listed data tables, to help your customers specify the best UL Listed choice for terminating MC AP and HCF MC AP cables, which are our high-performance T&B TITE-BITE connectors. We are seeing an increasing use of Southwire’s new self-grounding metal clad cables, MCAP (All Purpose), and HCF MCAP (Hospital Care Facility), also commonly referred to as “MC Smart” cable. This is due to the 20-30% installation time savings, which complements the time saving and high performance features our T&B TITE-BITE connectors have. The installation time savings is because the labor-intensive ground wire make-up inside the box has been eliminated. This is accomplished because the MCAP cable is constructed with an integral grounding wire that stays in contact with the armor over the whole length of cable, allowing it to be self-grounding. This also saves space in the box and reduces stress on the electrical connections.
