With a population of more than 50,000, Ames is revered for its friendliness and its varied entertainment and cultural opportunities. Main street often bustles with parades and festivals (below) and Campustown (right) is full of shops and eateries, popular among students.

Iowa State Cyclone Soccer

Steady Improvement

The 2009 ISU squad got off to the best start in program history, going unbeaten in the first seven matches.

The Cyclones allowed nearly a goal per game less in 2009 than in 2008

ISU avenged a 7-0 loss at Oklahoma State in 2008 by beating the Cowgirls in 2009.

Iowa State won two more Big 12 games in 2009 than in 2008.

Supporting the Community

The Iowa State soccer team won the Cyclone Challenge Award the past years. The award goes to the ISU team that made the greatest contribution to the community.

Five members of the ISU squad spent their 2010 Spring Break providing assistance to those in need in Haiti.

An Excellent Coaching Staff

Coaches Wendy Dillinger and Tracy Grose have been a part of professional soccer teams.

Dillinger led Washington University (Mo.) to four NCAA Championship berths and conference titles.

Dillinger and Grose, combined, hold nearly every career and season offensive record at Indiana University.

Grose was a member of the 2002 WUSA champion Carolina Courage.

Assistant coach Ben Madsen owns the career goalkeeper saves mark at Lincoln Memorial University, where he earned all-conference honors.

Academic Success

Ann Gleason was named an ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America recipient in 2009. Nine players received Academic All-Big 12 honors in 2009, tying the largest number in program history.

The soccer team earned a cumulative 3.19 grade-point average in the 2009-10 academic school year.

First-Class Facilities

The Cyclones play at the brightly lit, natural grass ISU Soccer Complex, with a locker room and newly renovated team meeting room located adjacent to the field.

Iowa State practices at the practice field adjacent to the game field or at the $10 million Bergstrom Indoor Training Facility that opened in 2004.

ISU uses the 7,500 square foot sports medicine facility and utilizes sports psychologist Dr. Marty Martinez .
