We all have a duty to protect ourselves and our

fellow workers as we go about our daily business.

From simple tasks like keeping walkways clear of

obstacles, clearing up spills whether in the office

or shop floor to ensuring machinery and

equipment is safe to work on before undertaking a

task. The illustrations show that the responsibility

for safe working lies with more than one

individual. The unfortunate engineer being

electrocuted should have locked-off the power

isolator before commencing his work. Equally, no

person should energise a system without first

checking that it is safe to do so. In the second

illustration, the worker is drowning in the sump

tank, simply because he forgot to apply a locking

device to the valve. This would have provided

warning to the valve operator that work was

ongoing. At Castell Iso-lok we offer advice and

equipment to accommodate all lock-off situations.

The starting point of any good lock-off is a reliable

personal padlock system which prevents one

person from removing another person's padlock.

Unless this feature can be assured, the integrity of

the system is negated. If duplicate keys are in

circulation in a workplace, the possibility arises

that one will be used to remove a padlock

protecting a worker during maintenance or

cleaning procedures. Everything should therefore

be done to make sure that no duplicate keys are

in circulation. The more often you source padlocks

from a supplier who does not maintain

records, so the risk increases. At Castell Iso-lok we

record every single padlock and key against your

customer 'Differ' record. At any time in the future

when you need to buy new padlocks, we can check

your complete supply history to ensure that

duplications are not issued. If keys have been lost

and need replacing, we verify the authority to

request a replacement. By keeping accurate

records, we are able to protect your best safety

Anti-Tamper Locking Unit for Handwheel and LeverOperated Valves

IntroductionMany valves require a simple to use locking device to prevent

accidental or unauthorised operation. The ATL fits directly to valves in

place of the normal handwheel or operating lever after machining the

adapter.

ConstructionThe ATL is available in two sizes covering all valve si zes. Available in

304 Stainless Steel for standard monitored areas offering a secure

device. For remote unmonitored areas a carbon steel case hardened

option is available which will withstand the toughest vandalism.

OperationWith ATL fitted to the valve, a tamper-proof key can be inserted

allowing valve operation. The valve can be operated to any position,

once the key has been removed ATL free wheels preventing valve

operation.

OrderingThe units are available "off the shelf" allowing you to undertake the

simple machining operation.

Lock out BoxesLock out boxes form part of safe systems of work, they are used to

store isolation lock keys, fuses etc, that have been used to form an

isolation. Manufactured to CEGB standard 13523 to provide for the

safe retention of keys or other means used for isolating or 'locking

off', in accordance with the CEGB Safety Rules. The key safe locking

system operates in accordance with the following requirements:

The control key can be withdrawn in the locked unlocked positions.

Secondary Lock Keys can only be removed in the locked position.

Lock mechanisms are independent of each other.

The Key safe is secure until all keys are in the unlocked position.

Control locks and keys are alike within a key control area.

Secondary locks and keys differ win a key control area.

Key safes are of single or multiple units, which can be close mounted together. The box and door are

constructed from 1.2mm thick mild steel, using a hinge pin 3.15mm diameter, secured to prevent

withdrawal. The door is fitted with clear plastic 3mm thick, arranged to permit entry by breaking. All safes

have one control lock either four or seven secondary locks. All locks are identified on the door of the safe

together with the safe number. All keys are provided with brass tags engraved with the safe number and

PadlocksNumbering to 'Differ'Iso-Lok can guarantee that padlock locking systems

do 'differ'. Using a simple system of numbering

padlock body and keys and recording these numbers

against each customer record we can avoid using the

same numbers on subsequent orders. If, for security

reasons you don't wish the locking mechanism

number to appear we can still apply the same system

for you.

Using t he same procedure and in addition to

supplying padlocks to 'dif fer' we supply;

Padlocks all 'keyed alike' (to pass).

Padlocks 'master keyed' (mastered and differed).

Padlocks with chain attached.

This registration of numbers enables us to quickly

identify locking mechanisms previously supplied if

duplications are required at a later date.

Iso-Lok Keying OptionsIso-Lok offers three basic keying options. Use the

following guide to select the key system which best

suits your Permit to Work requirements.

Padlocks to 'Differ'Each padlock has a unique locking mechanism and its

own key. One person cannot open another persons

padlock.

'Master' and 'Differ'Each padlock has a unique locking mechaism and its

Engraving Charges

Lockable Document HolderThis Lockable Document Holder can be easily mounted to

any wall or door. The holder features a hinged, clear PVC

enclosure, fitted to a metal back, which protects documents

and enables them to be read without removal. A double

hinged version is also available for two sided documents.

The Lockable Document Holder enables documents to be

clearly displayed near the place of work, and protects them

from possible loss or damage.

The two clear PVC layers sandwich the document and can

be locked together with an Iso-lok padlock. The double

hinged version secures one edge of this enclosure to the

back with a magnet, ensuring the first page is always

visible, but enabling personnel to flip it over to clearly

MultiClasp Locking Off SystemsLocking-off systems make an important contribution to

the health and safety of operatives in accordance with

the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, in addition

the Electricity at Work Regulation 1989. They prevent

the inadvertent use of dangerous plant and

equipment.

Uses:To prevent access to electrical installations or valves

while power is switched off. They can also be used in

the 'Locked Set' position.

Mechanism:The Multi-Clasp is attached to the relevant anchor

point so that each operative can insert his own

personalised padlock which is then locked. To restore

access to the prime mover, all padlocks must be

removed.

Safety Lockout BagSafety Lockout bag, si ze 10" x 19" complete with 30"

rope and metal clamp. The Lockout Bag completely

encloses an electrical plug to prevent accidental

reconnection during maintenance work.

The electrical cable and plug is inserted into the

lockout bag at one end, clamped shut and by

attaching multi-clasp and padlocks ensures that the

plug cannot be removed and connected until

maintenance work is finished and the padlocks

removed.
