"Plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11 As I write this, the end of our summer is drawing nigh. Soon, school will start again and a variety of expressions and responses are felt and heard within our community. It is the dance of transition we do every year. I hope your summer was filled with wonder, rest and amazing memories. And so what will American Lutheran offer to you and the community at large for the coming year? We offer what our God declared in Jeremiah. We offer a sanctuary for the broken, the anxious, the angry, the zealot, the humble, the doubter, the seeker and all points in between to hear of God's revealed plan in Christ Jesus and a space to wrestle with it. We offer uncomfortable questions and deep assurances from the One who created you and calls you sacred. We do not offer perfection or even preach such a silly thing. We offer a space to rest, to take a step back, and hear and experience unconditional grace in study and in worship. It is said often that it takes a village to raise a child. How true. It takes a village, a community of faith to hear what Jeremiah proclaims. The absolutely assured hope and future resides in our Sunday summery mantra ... "Jesus has you, He holds you and promises never to let you go." Your heart, struggles, questions and prayers are needed and valued. See you my friends soon in worship. Pastor Matt

Message from the Pastor

"For I know the plans that I have for you,"

declared the Lord.

"Plans to prosper you and not harm you,

plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

As I write this, the end of our summer is drawing nigh. Soon, school will

start again and a variety of expressions and responses are felt and heard

within our community. It is the dance of transition we do every year. I hope

your summer was filled with wonder, rest and amazing memories.

And so what will American Lutheran offer to you and the community at

large for the coming year? We offer what our God declared in Jeremiah. We offer a sanctuary for the

broken, the anxious, the angry, the zealot, the humble, the doubter, the seeker and all points in

between to hear of God's revealed plan in Christ Jesus and a space to wrestle with it. We offer

uncomfortable questions and deep assurances from the One who created you and calls you

sacred. We do not offer perfection or even preach such a silly thing. We offer a space to rest, to take

a step back, and hear and experience unconditional grace in study and in worship.

It is said often that it takes a village to raise a child. How true. It takes a village, a community of

faith to hear what Jeremiah proclaims. The absolutely assured hope and future resides in our

Sunday summery mantra ... "Jesus has you, He holds you and promises never to let you go." Your

heart, struggles, questions and prayers are needed and valued. See you my friends soon in worship.

Special Thanks Appreciation for God’s blessings in action

Special thank yous to all our lawn mowers and groundskeepers who volunteered throughout the summer season. You kept our church a beautiful and inspirational place to worship and find God in our hearts! All summer long we enjoyed special music presented by so many of our church family members. Your gifts enhanced our worship more than you know. Please accept our thanks.

Dear ALC Community, We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the generous outpouring of love and support you have given us as we prepare for the arrival of our son. Sincerely, Alan and Stacey Mock

Puerto Rico Mission Trip July 26-31, 2020

Please join us in the sanctuary after church on September 8th for an Info Meeting

We are planning a mission trip to Puerto Rico next summer for High School Youth and Adults. If you would like to join, please talk to Pastor Janine. The cost for the trip per person will be $429 plus airfare. We plan to raise funds to offset our costs over the coming year. A $50 deposit is needed by September 15th if you would like to be a part of this experience!

About Puerto Rico Serving in a place where Spanish is the primary language will give your group an opportunity to step into a genuine cross-cultural experience. You’ll help address poverty by partnering with local organizations, and see firsthand what it looks like to do community development in an area that has survived a major natural disaster. Service in Puerto Rico is highly relational, whether you’re working with children, youth or the elderly. Volunteers may serve all or part of the week at an outreach ministry, a local church working to meet the needs of its neighbors, a community farm or a variety of children's programs.

Please take a bit of time to talk with God in prayer about the many concerns

for good health, finances, visas, and guidance for Aaron, Stacey, Ellie, and soon to come baby boy Zabriskie, our Zimbabwe missionaries and friends.. You can also reach them by email: [email protected]

Newsletter Deadline –October 20th --including all calendar items, service group schedules, announcements, and thank you notes. Please email them to [email protected] THANK YOU!

This year, we will be reading and discussing Rachel Held Evans' book "A Year of Biblical Womanhood". Pastor Janine has 10 copies in her office ($9.50 each). For our September gathering (Thursday, Sept. - 6:30 p.m. at Christ Shaver's home) we will read the introduction and the first chapter - "October: Gentleness -- Girl Gone Mild." Looking forward to the conversation!

“See what happens when a thoroughly modern woman starts referring to her husband as "master" and "praises him at the city gate" with a homemade sign. With a mixture of humor and insight, compassion and incredulity, A Year of Biblical Womanhood is an exercise in scriptural exploration and spiritual contemplation. What does God truly expect of women, and is there really a prescription for biblical womanhood? Come along with Evans as she looks for answers in the rich heritage of biblical heroines, models of grace, and all-around women of valor.”

Choir Practice begins on September 11th at 7pm. If you would like to join, Please do. Everyone who can make a joyful noise from 5th grade on up is encouraged to join. Contact Nancy Sauer if you have any questions.

Confirmation Sunday is October 27th. Please join us in celebrating the faith of:
