“This strategic partnership with Origis supportsGeorgetown’s carbon footprint reduction goals whileproviding long term energy price stability,” said RobinMorey, Vice President, Planning and FacilitiesManagement, Georgetown University.
Pending approval from the Maryland Public ServiceCommission and local permitting, the solar facility willbe located on 518 acres in Charles County. The OrigisEnergy designs call for the use of single axis trackingtechnology and approximately 105,000 solar panelmodules and will interconnect to the South MarylandElectric Cooperative transmission system. The projectwill create approximately 200 jobs during construction,which is anticipated to start in early 2019 and becompleted by summer 2019.

The use of solar power at Georgetown has been todate by rooftop solar installations, including its 2013Solar Street Project, and a 300 kW array on the rooftopof the ICC building that ran from 1984 to 2012. Earlierthis year, the university executed a power purchaseagreement to build 1.1 MW of solar on six campusbuildings.
