“The Dinner Was Delicious But The Plates Were Cold.”

This was a comment offered by a guest at a Thanksgiving dinner. The best dinner service had been used: hand painted, gold china, the best silverware and crystal wine glasses. That statement has been passed down for the past 50 years in my family.

Are there similar memories in your family? –

OR

Have there been any natural disasters that affected your family?

Where were you and your family when you heard of John F. Kennedy’s shooting? Or a famous trial (O. J. Simpson’s Not Guilty Verdict for example?)

Maybe you had children early. Do you remember cloth diapers? Changing, washing,

folding them? What about a life changing decision that was made?

Move, change jobs, get married, divorced?

Capturing Your Memories Is Like Preserving History.

We often need a “spark” to get started down memory lane. Sometimes answering a simple question or thinking of a special incident can get you thinking about a certain period in your life, and suddenly lots of memories you hadn’t thought of in ages are right at your fingertips.

These classes will get you started down Memory Lane and writing your own memoirs.

There will be class participation.

Each week we’ll write a chapter in your memoires.

You’ll get ideas and instructions on how to do this and there will be many tips on how to make capturing your memoires easier.

Attend one or all of the classes. Fees will be collected at each week’s class.

Tea Leaves

Sleeping Through the Storm

Like a living thing,the wind

howled and moaned, seeking entry through any opening.

The heater struggled gamelyto warm the old house.

I lay in my blanket-piled bedand listened

with that sense of contentmentthat comes from being warm and dry inside

while the elements rage without. Then I remembered the man I’d seen

walking the streets that day, wearing a backpack

and leading a shaggy dog.Where are they sleeping tonight?

Still warm and dry,but less contented,

I listened to the storm.
