Footprints Worship At its January 19 th meeting the session approved a recommendation concerning the monthly Footprints worship. The recommendation was to cancel the monthly worship service and that on the months which contain five Sundays that the 5 th Sunday will be a Footprints style worship service in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday mornings. (A previous recommendation was approved that on the 5 th Sundays that St. Philip would only have 1 worship service at 10:00 am.) One reason for this recommendation was that the attendance for the monthly Footprints service has been dwindling. But the style of worship, with a praise band, an act of faith and communion would take place four times a year. (March, June, August and November.) The next Sunday that we will have one service at 10:00 AM in the Footprints style is March 30 th . Session members would like some feedback about this style of worship taking place on the 5 th Sundays. Please share your comments with a current Session member or Rev. Garis. Churches register as a group and provide their own adult sponsors. Designed much like summer camp, with bible study and small group discussions, the weekend offers opportunities for children and youth to choose from a variety of fun activities.

Dear friends at St. Philip, Thank you so much for all your expressions of sympathy following my father’s recent death. Your many kind words, cards and prayers were a great source of comfort. My dad always looked forward to worshipping at St. Philip whenever he came to visit and always spoke warmly of the people he met there. I am truly blessed to be part of such a supportive congregation. Sincerely, Rob Rippe I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to members of the church and to Greg for their prayers, visits, cards, and words of encouragement. It has gotten me through some hard times the last several months. The church means a lot to me, and I hope soon to be active again. I have enjoyed listening to the music and sermon on the CD's, but I miss you all. Sincerely, Randee Teykl Thanks to our SPPC family for all the kindness shown to us during and after my hip replacement in December. We do so appreciate all of the prayers & concerns, and all the get well cards are always a spirit lifter. Thanks to those who provided a lovely Christmas meal, as well as the black eye peas for the new years! A special thank you to the folks who gave Robert a ride Presbyterian Hospital to visit. That meant a great deal to us. Our St. Philip family is awesome and has seen us through some rough times these last few months, and for this kindness we are truly thankful! Blessings, Robert & Cecile Lemmon To our St. Philip family, Thank you for your support during Mother's last few years. Your phone calls, cards and visits meant so much to her. We appreciate all your prayers and support at Mother's passing. You are each a blessing from God. The family of Martha Grammer

This year the Ft. Worth Habitat for Humanity, will have a special build. Former President Carter and Rosalyn, will be in the DFW area to help with the effort. Ft. Worth Presbyterians have been asked to raise $100,000. I am looking for St. Philip volunteers, men or women, to carry this out.

This would be to go to a Habitat meeting once in a while, and to help me with ideas and such. The $100,000 shouldn’t be too hard to raise. Normally we have raised about $60,000. Thank You, Dave MacGregor 817-656-4594 [email protected]

Nurture Committee Annual Summary 2013

The nurture committee continued to support our visitors and new members to help provide information needed to navigate around the church building and to find people to connect with to get information that they might require, or questions answered as needed. We also seek to nurture the entire congregation with opportunities for service. The Connection Point Table continues to be a resource for visitors, new members, and all members, as a place

where information can be obtained and questions answered. We continue to provide a welcoming gift bag for each visitor.

Greeters are still being used to be sure that each person that enters the Church has a warm welcome, as well as to assist those who might need help with the doors as they enter.

We have organized and hosted 2 “New Member” receptions this year with the help of many volunteers throughout the church. We have also seen another page with the most recent new members added for our pictorial directory thanks to Paula Overton.

Shepherds program for New Members Session members have been given an updated questionnaire to be used when they deliver the “New Member

Packets” as we welcome these new people into our Church family. This questionnaire is used to write a short biography on the new member/members and, with their permission, include this bio in the Church “Punch” newsletter.

The Nurture Committee is currently combining efforts with the Congregational Life committee to work on church events/projects together. Our goal is to provide an avenue for each and every member of the congregation to be able to participate for a short term in events as they are inspired and lead. Respectfully submitted by: Cindy Burt

Note of the Week………………

We all know that St. Philip is a very giving and caring church and has great pot-luck dinners! Well, last night at the “Jump for Joy” event, I witnessed all of that and more! If you didn’t know the purpose of the event, it was to raise money for gift cards for HEB children who need help because they need shoes for class, or are living out of a car, or have no home because their parents are incarcerated or have left the state, or for a family who has been evicted from their apartment. The statistics for needy families in HEB and the number of Title I schools in the district are astonishing! Bob and I raised our two boys in the district years ago be-cause it had the best schools in the area and was supported by well-off parents. That definitely has changed now. The teachers and schools are still great but the families need help. The “Jump for Joy” event raised quite a bit of money in response. St. Philip and community members stepped up to the plate and donated money by buying HEB-student works of art, cupcakes from the HEB culinary classes and valentines. Some members just put their cash and checks in the provided jars! HEB music students provided vocal and string music through-out the evening and our own Mike Ellis and Tom Demer capped off the evening with wonderful, original and entertaining music! Hats off to Rick Peters, Wendy Parmelee, Susan Riley, Greg Garis and all of the committee members involved who made this event a great success! This Sunday our youth chime choir is playing “Holy Manna” and “Promised Land” for the offertory at both the 8:30 and 11:00 services. The Chancel Choir is singing “God is Calling through the Whisper” which is found in our new hymnal, Glory to God and is sung to the Polish carol “Infant Holy, Infant Lowly”. Some of the words are: God is calling through the whisper of the Spirit’s deepest sighs, through the thrill of sudden beauties that can catch us by surprise. Flash of lightning, crash of thunder; hush of stillness, rush of wonder: God is call-ing can you hear? God is calling can you hear? See you in church on Sunday.

Joyfully Singing in Christ, Pam Cochrane
