An Introduction - Green WarriorNSS IITD select 2 or 3 volunteer form each

hostel for healthy environment in our campus.

A green warrior for a hostel will be the person who will take environment friendly measures in their hostels and motivate all

the students to pursue their life in sync with nature.


Our working FieldOur work to create the awareness of various

issues in our hostel and plan various activities to eliminate them.

We will help in bringing out radical changes in notice of the maintenance /mess secretary and

also our hostel authorities .

More Than 1 billion people Are Hungry in the World….

According to 2007-08 survey report. So we can imagine about the present condition not

in the world but only in India. Today People are dying without food because they

don’t have enough food for livingAnd we can guess what will happen in coming 4-5

years.So please don’t waste food it can save someone life.


What is food Wastage•47% of waste in landfill is food & green organic waste. wiki source• Food waste results from preparing and cooking food. • It is the food we throw in the dustbin after eating (the

food rest in our plate). • It's the food we bought to eat but then threw away.


Food WasteThere are two types of food waste: 'avoidable' and

'unavoidable' food waste.• Avoidable: includes food that:–gets wasted because we buy more than we required.–is out of date before we use it.–gets wasted because we cook more than we need.

• Unavoidable: food waste that can not usually be eaten. It is the food waste we can not really do anything further with apart from composting it or putting it in the dustbin.

food is going to wastage.We can’t it zero but if we try then we can

minimize it.A Little Progress Everyday Adds Up to A Big Result


Reasons Behind Food wastageThere are many reasons responsible for food

wastage, some of them are given as –

1.Quality of FoodIt is most effective factor. In hostels we can’t expect

food as we take at our own home but in comparison of other hostel it is too good.

In case on a particular day food is not good on


that day then it goes to wastage because we take it in our plates but without taste we don’t know what is the taste of today’s food and we through

it as a wastage.

2.AwarenessPeople don’t take it serious. They think if I waste

some food then it is not harmful for nobody.But they don’t know how many people sleep

without a piece of food.


3. Size of SpoonsSize of spoons is an important issue.

People take food by fully filled spoons it causes a lot of food waste.

Food Waste and the Environment

Every kilogram of food that ends up in landfill:•Emits harmful gas•Wastes resources required to grow and transport food•Pollutes waterways


Dumping a kilogram of beef means wasting the 50,000 litres of water used in its production.

Throwing out a kilo of white rice will waste 2,385 litres.

If less food were wasted, less land, water and energy would be needed across the entire value chain.


Remember FOOD WASTE = MONEY WASTE
