Food & Beverage Processing project – public consultation draft updates Based on stakeholder feedback received during the early development, and in conjunction with Subject Matter Experts, the following updates have been made to qualifications, units of competency and skill sets as part of the Food & Beverage Processing project:
• 5 qualifications consolidated to 2 (1 proposed for deletion, and 2 merged in to other qualifications, with specialisations added to Certificate III in Food Processing)
• 12 new units of competency created, including for non-alcoholic beverage production, dairy processing, allergens, traceability and general operational sectors
• 2 new skill sets created covering allergens and traceability • New sector created – OIL Oil refining • Qualifications reviewed to check alignment of qualifications to the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), and qualifications adjusted accordingly • AQF alignment of units of competency reviewed – this means that some units have had their codes changed to reflect their correct nominal AQF level
(e.g. FBPGRA2013 Blend and dispatch malt has changed to FBPGRA3XX) • Some units have been moved to a different sector. This has been done to better indicate the coverage of the unit. This change will be noticed in the
code of the unit. For example, the code for the unit Control contaminants and allergens in the workplace has been updated from FBPOPR3001 (OPR indicating the Operational sector) to FBPFSY3XX1 (FSY indicating the more suitable Food Safety sector)
• All units have had: o Foundation Skills clarified (and Core Skills for Work statements removed) o Performance Evidence clarified (particularly around volume and frequency of tasks to be performed) o Knowledge Evidence has been refined (with minor changes in most units) o Assessment Conditions made more succinct (with minor changes in most units)
• 20 units of competency with low/no enrolments are proposed for deletion.
The tables below provide additional information about specific changes that have been made in each component. Some components also have specific questions we would like stakeholder feedback on. This feedback can be provided in the Skills Impact Feedback Hub, or emailed to Danni McDonald – [email protected].

Units of competency Specific questions for each unit of competency are in the table below.
General questions for each unit include:
• Are there potential problems that may arise through the processes described in the units of competency that could be used in the Performance Evidence section? To help strengthen the problem-solving aspects in units of competency, we would like to be able to include specific potential problems that can arise in the processes covered by the unit. For example, in confectionery, a common problem to be solved involves blocked nozzles.
• Do the units of competency accurately reflect the skills and knowledge required to perform specific tasks within a “large” food processing facility? • Is the correct language/terminology being used? • Are the steps described in the units accurate, and are they in a logical order? • Is the assessment reasonable? • Are all units at the correct AQF level?
