Performers such as LosLobos, Ronnie Milsap andEddie Money arent neces-

sarily names associated withthe area, but this years FolsomLive music festival is about tochange that perception.

Those acts, as well at 27 oth-ers, are taking the spotlightSept. 23-24 in Folsoms two-daymusic fest. Organizers areexpecting up to 8,000 people toattend over the two days.

Money, who had a strings ofhits in the late 1970s and mid-1980s, is known for such popu-lar songs as Two Tickets to Par-adise, Think Im in Love, and Take Me Home Tonight.

Money hasnt stopped tour-ing. His concert in historic Fol-som is booked between con-certs in Texas, Connecticut andNorth Carolina.

His most recent album is2007s Wanna Go Back. Heperforms at 9:20 p.m. Friday.

Milsap recently released anew album, Country Again, inwhich he returns to his countryroots. The singer has had 40 No.1 hits and sold more than 35

million records. To his credit healso has seven Grammy Awards, four Academy of Country MusicAwards and eight Music Associ-ation Awards.

I came to town to sing coun-try music, Milsap said in astatement. And when left to myown devices, around the house, its what I love to sing. It alldates back to my roots in NorthCarolina, and its in my blood.

Ive been very fortunate tohave had a lot of successfulrecords. Now its time tomake some more.

Born in the mountain town ofRobbinsville, NC, Milsap wasraised by his bluegrass-lovingfather and his grandparents inthe unincorporated MeadowBranch community in westernNorth Carolina. Each weekend, the struggling family gatheredaround a battery-powered radio

and tuned in to the Grand OleOpry on WSM, listening to Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb and othergreats. He attended a school forthe blind in Raleigh, emergingwith enhanced musical knowl-edge and a love of rock, pop andother non-Appalachian formsof music, he said.

    Milsap performs 8:45-10 p.m.Saturday, Sept. 24.

Los Lobos bandmates areLouie Perez on drums, guitars, percussion, vocals; Steve Berlinon saxophone, percussion, flute, midsax, harmonica, melodica; Cesar Rosas onvocals, guitar, mandolin; Con-rad Lozano on bass, guitarron, vocals; David Hidalgo onvocals, guitar, accordion, per-cussion, bass, keyboards, melodica, drums, violin, banjo;and Cougar Estrada on

drums/percussion.A rare example of longevity in

the music world, Los Loboslineup has remained uninter-rupted since 1984, when saxo-phonist/keyboardist SteveBerlin joined original membersPrez, Hidalgo, Rosas andLozano, each of whom hadbeen there since the beginningin 1973.

More than three decadeshave passed since Los Lobosreleased their first album, JustAnother Band from East L.A.

Los Lobos performs 7-8:30p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24.

This is the first year FolsomLive has garnered national acts.

The ultimate goal for FolsomLive is to develop a music festi-val that will be an economicdriver and showcase for thecity, said Mary Ann McAlea, with the Folsom TourismBureau and Chamber of Com-merce. We are a good host city

for events and people arealways looking for things to do.

She said getting headlinersthis year was a natural evolu-tion for the event.

In the growth strategy (forFolsom Live), the opportunityto bring headliners would grow

the event, she said. FolsomLive has always been aboutmusic.

She said reaction has beenpositive regarding the acts.

I think it tells people there is

a commitment to growing theevent, McAlea said. Gettingpeople (to attend) from theregion is huge. If they just driveby us on Highway 50, they dontknow what we have to offer.

Some changes to the layoutare also in store. The mainstage, usually located at the rail-road turntable, will be moved tothe Traders Lane parking lot.

Dianne Rogers, with thechamber of commerce, said

Folsom Live is one of the orga-nizations biggest events.

Folsom Live and the FolsomPro Rodeo are the two biggestfundraisers of the year, Rogerssaid.
