Term Dates

This very short term finishes on Friday 24 May 2019 and we return to

school for the final term of the academic year on Monday 3 June 2019.

Full academic year dates are published on the school website and include the

school’s five Teacher Training Days. Please note that training days are not

included on the calendar on Northamptonshire County Council’s website.

Thank you to everyone who supported our events last half term. Much fun

was had by the children with the Pancake Flipping and Easter Egg Hunt and

the Sharing Assembly Tea & Cake sale was popular as usual. Another

successful term of raising money for our school and the children.

The Pancake Flipping event raised a wonderful amount of £477 so a huge

thank you to everyone who either sponsored or gathered sponsors for

their child/children. Well done for Class 2 in achieving the most Pancake

flips overall, Felix for the top of Class 1, Oscar for top of Class 2, Amelia

for top of Class 3 and the overall individual winner, Sebby for the best

technique and Bella for the most stylish.

The Cash4Clothes raised £98.50 on this occasion - nearly double the last

one - so a huge thank you for everyone who donated. We will have a final

collection for this academic year in the summer term (date TBC).

The Easter Egg Hunt was again a success despite being indoors due to the

weather. I don't think many eggs even lasted the journey home! A big thank

you to Mrs Murphy and all the volunteers.

The Sharing Assembly tea & cake sale raised a fabulous amount of £151

boosted by the Easter cake raffle and many delicious Easter themed cake

donations. Thank you to all who donated and supported the event.

We like to keep you informed on how we spend the money you help to

raise and the PTA is currently in progress making additions to the play-

ground, involving an undercover Art Shack and educational games tables.

We hope to have this installed before the end of this academic year.

The main event for the summer term will be the Summer Fete and we will

start planning this immediately! Our next PTA meeting is on Monday

29th April 3.30pm where it will be predominately about the fete. All are

welcome and if you would like to volunteer your time or ideas for this

event please let us know.

Thank you for your continued support

Our story this term is Into the

Forest - a beautifully illustrated

book by Anthony Browne. Martin

will be with us on Monday 29 April

to bring us his usual talents to

assist our creative writing.

Governing Body News Paul Gooding, Chair of Governors

The efforts of the Governing Body to ensure continuity and prudent succession planning are now bearing some fruit; I am

delighted to report that Nigel Ozier was co-opted to our number at our March meeting. We are delighted to welcome Nigel

to the Governing Body, not least as he brings with him a wealth of experience and many relevant skills which will be

invaluable to us.

We have also had positive meetings with a further potential recruit, who will be meeting with all governors after our forth-

coming budget meeting, with a view to possibly joining us this term.

The main business for the early part of this term is the annual Budget Meeting, which had to be deferred from March due to

illness and work commitments.

EYFS Talk for Writing

Mornings

This term’s Talk for Writing

Mornings for parents of pupils

in EYFS will be on 8 and 9 May

(9.45-10.30am). Please feel

free to join us on either of

these mornings and watch

your child engage in a Talk for

Writing session.

Don’t forget Monday 6 May is a Bank Holiday

Open Library Sessions

Mrs Henson is again available this term to

welcome you to our Library on Tuesdays

between 3.30 and 4.00pm. Please use and

enjoy our valuable resources. Open to

younger siblings as well as all pupils.

Please sign in at the door with Mrs

Henson on arrival.

BREAKFAST CLUB

We have occasional spaces available at Breakfast Club this term every day. Please remember that we need

48 hours’ notice if you wish to request availability. If you wish to cancel your commitment, the school needs a

term’s notice to enable us to adjust staffing provision accordingly.

NHS Health Assessment

(Reception)

The School Nurses will be visiting

on Wednesday 8 May to carry

out the annual assessment. Full

details were sent home at the

very end of last term. If you have

not yet returned your forms can

you please do so as a matter of

urgency.

KS2 Summer Residential 15-17 July 2019

There will be a statutory meeting for the summer residential on Thursday 9 May at

6pm. ALL PARENTS AND CHILDREN must please attend this meeting.

The £115 balance due has been loaded to ParentPay for payment before the end of

May Half Term holiday.

Premises Update

Now that we are in the summer term,

we hope to spend as many break/lunch

times on the field as possible. Our

Reading Huts will be opened once more and the children will

be encouraged to use our comfy beanbags/chairs/rugs in order

to read around the school.

Mariusz has, over the holiday, given all patios and furniture a

spring clean and the weekly Outdoor Club will continue to

keep our grounds looking lovely.

Two Summer Messages

Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school at all times. We are constantly being asked

for cups at break time and the school does not have enough to share with all pupils. This is very

important during the warmer weather.

Sun cream should not be sent in to school with your child. The school is unable to apply it on your

behalf and in our experience children are not very good at applying it themselves. Please ensure you

apply sun cream before school. Sun hats are also beneficial and children should be provided with one.

Magistrates in the Community

Class 3 will again be welcoming

the Magistrates from the

Community programme on

Monday 20 May. This year we

will be enacting a mock trial on

Cyber Bullying. Look out for a

pupil report in the next

newsletter.

Class 2/3

EGYPTIAN ART DAY

Classes 2 and 3 are

looking forward to an Art

Day with Mrs Elliott on

Friday 26 April to

complement their studies

on Ancient Egyptians.

Just recently we have taken delivery of five beautiful balance bikes. We have had these on

order since our very successful Balance Bike training for Reception which took place in the

Autumn. They have finally arrived and are proving to be very popular - and effective in

developing balance skills.

Thank you for parking with care and consideration. Parking in the vicinity of the

school is always problematic for residents and your continuing support is greatly

appreciated. Please feel free to drop off your child (Y2 upwards) at 08.50am if they

wish to read their page turner in school.

This term’s charges have now

been loaded to ParentPay.

Please remember to log in and

check your child’s account.

Please ensure your child has full PE kit in

school all week from

Monday to Friday.

Balance Bikes

20% discount voucher (food only)

available for all parents and staff

at Maidwell Primary School - valid

until 30 June 2019.

Please request yours from the

school office.

Yoga

By Lara, Y3

A few weeks ago we started a yoga club with a yoga teacher named Lisa. She teaches us yoga with

lots of different stretches. We also do lots of fun activities with her. We have some stories to help us

know what the lessons are about.

She’s taught mountain pose which we do every day as a warm up. We do stretching and listening. I

like it because it’s fun and we learn relaxing poses and more difficult poses. It makes me feel calm.

Easter Egg Hunt

By Evan, Y3

We coloured a paper egg and cut it out. The teachers hide them and you have to find them. After

you get a chocolate treat … it is usually an egg. It is fun because it sometimes takes quite a while to

find your egg.

** Everybody in school would like to thank the PTA for again organising this annual event for us **

Aladdin

By Madison, Y6

I really enjoyed it because it was nice to see the characters being played by other people and hear the

songs that we learnt. I liked the way the Reception children were singing all the songs. My favourite

character was the Genie. I also really enjoyed the dancers – in our performance we didn’t have back

flips! There were other songs which were not in our production. The stage set was amazing – the

scenes changed really quickly. My favourite scene was the Cave of Wonders – but it still wasn’t bet-

ter than our production. Oscar was definitely a better Spooky Voice than in the London show. One

of my favourite parts was when the Genie kept on returning to the star door labelled with his name.

The best song – in my opinion – was A Friend Like Me.

Pancake Flip

By Amber, Y3

To start with we went into the hall. There was a bench with a pan and pancake in it. An adult counted

when we were flipping. Aimee’s mum was doing the stop watch. We then got a piece of paper to let

us know how many we’d flipped. I did 23. Thea did most – she flipped 41.
