APPLICATION NOTE METALSFOOD INDUSTRY
Optical thickness measurements are insensitive to sheet composition and employ no ionizing radiation, unlike traditional x-ray and nucleonic solutions when measuring heavy aluminum strip. The T100 uses multiple top and bottom laser triangulations for higher precision and redundancy. The system can be configured for centerline thickness and profile measurements (wedge and crown). The T100’s ultra-stable C-Frame platform is environmentally protected and water cooled.

NDCT offer a complete line of X-ray gauges designed for a wide range of aluminum applications. Each gauge accurately measures metal thickness by detecting the attenuation of a specifically shaped X-ray beam from a metal-ceramic x-ray tube as it passes through the metal strip. An efficient application-matched ion chamber and a reliable preamplifier ensures high signal-to-noise ratios for fast, accurate measurement.
Alloy compensation is common to all NDCT’s X-ray gauges. This is achieved with alloy-specific calibration curves, or the optional Complete Physical Model (CPM) which is based on coil-specific composition. This powerful calibration tool allows users to automatically calibrate the gauge for each coil eliminating errors due to composition variation coil to coil.
NDCT’s IG710S scanning infrared gauge is designed to measure water-based coatings, organic coatings, solvent-based coatings and polymer laminations.
The SR710S gauge measures clear and lightly pigmented thin organic lacquer coatings plus adhesive coatings. It also measures wax on aluminum and thin water-based coatings.

Introducing a new metals system design from NDC for the steel, aluminum and non-ferrous metals processes based on its Total Distributed Intelligence (TDi) architecture. AccuRay TDi-700 X-Ray Thickness Gauge Architecture
The rugged platform offers reduced system complexity, high reliability and low installation costs. With fewer components and interconnections, it provides straightforward trouble-shooting and maintenance tasks with significantly lower lifecycle costs. The AccuRay X-ray Thickness Systems include an efficient closed-loop cooling and temperature control. This ensures long-term, reliable x-ray operation, as well as consistent sensor performance regardless of mill conditions. C-frames are sealed and maintain a positive internal pressure to ensure internal components remain dry and clean.
The new architecture’s smart sensors represent an important development for the metals industry that requires high performance in a simple, reliable system. Central to the design of NDCT’s metals gauging systems is their ability to deliver the maximum uptime that ensures high operator utilization to promote quality, productivity and results from start to finish from each line in the plant.
