This was a trial that I did before. It was not very successful. I lost the bucket and the other tools. No one actually played with the sand because there was not enough sand and no sign that explain about the site.

The wind blew some of the paper chains. It was a bad weather, for the next few days, it was always raining and windy.

A few of the wishes blew by the wind. Some of the were wet, but still hang on the string.

From the precious activities in the public space, I discovered that there is a connection between the people in the public that occupy the space. How they relate to the memories of the space and how it comforts them. People in public space are connected to memories of how they behave as a person. The reaction of the public reflects about them-selves in their life.

In the public space people are usually too self-conscious to notice there surroundings and are more cautious. But they are curious because it is in their nature. They will put themselves at risk in certain circumstances, but only if they feel safe and they would reveal more about them-selves to the public. The public usually are not aware of the small changes of the surrounding.

WISHING TREE

JAPANESSE NOTES PRAYERI again used the idea of using the material of the public space that already in there. On the precious project, by putting more sand on the ground tree area, I tried to make a more private zone of the sand pit. But for this project, I put sign and hanged the wishes on the tree. I brought the idea of touching the paper and folding it, related back to our memories when we learn how to make origami. I am quite surprise that people actually came and made a lot of wishes. An-other Idea that I want to emphasize is how the public itself that actually built the space. It also makes a connection between the space and the inhabitant. How the public itself left their memories on the site when they visited the space and made their wished. Moreover, I think because of the rainy weather, the wishes paper smells. They smell like leaves and ground. Although some of the writing are washed, but this is a really nice unexpected outcome.

PAPER CHAINSThe idea of making paper chain is more general compare Japanese notes prayer. Which the Japanese notes is more subjective, related to my memories when I travelled to Japan a few years ago. While paper chain are something that people from any different cultures learn when they was a child.

After I did the project, I realised that Bowen Lane is more private than Swanston St. I though the reverse before. But maybe because it is a part of the RMIT campus, the security is more concern about the place. There is more control in there. The public also more involved by the popularity. The more wishes on the tree, the more people came and made a wish.Maybe because it is more trustable and safe if a lot of people already did.

SAND 'PIT' CASTLEThe idea of this project is to bring the childhood memories back. Remembered when the time we spent together at the beach with family and friends. For the installation, I used the idea of touch the sand and bring the salty smell of the sand to the site.

WHAT DID YOU DRAW WHEN YOU WERE 5?I also used the same idea of touch and smell of the sand. But in the connec-tion with the memories, I related it with the spontaneity. When we draw some-thing, somehow we will connect them to our memory and how do we feel at the same time.
