Folger Adam brand electric locks arecharacterized by superior quality anddependability. These locks have beenproven by years of use in prisons, jailsand detention facilities throughout theworld. Each model offers a wide rangeof features to allow customized functionfor specific security requirements.

Qualification ofSecurity Levels___________The security level of a lock or otherhardware item is determined by itsability to endure in the specificenvironment in which it is used, thelevel of supervision within the areawhere it is installed, and a variety ofother factors. The terms minimum, medium and maximum are used todescribe the relative relationship ofproducts to one another.

Each lock on the following pages carriesa level of security designation or range. These designations are Southern FolgerDetention Equipment Companysevaluation of the ability of the productto withstand the rigors probable in thatparticular security level. Key type, cylinder type, and overall strength andconstruction of the locks have beenconsidered in reaching the publishedlevels. Because of the number ofvariables affecting security level, thedesignations in this catalog should beconsidered as guidelines only.

    Keys_____________________

All keys are registered before shipmentto allow prompt, accurate response torequests for additional or replacementkeys. To ensure the security of your

keying system, keys are sold only toproperly authorized buyers. Keys aresold separately and are not included inthe price of the locks.

    Prison Keys

Southern Folgers standard policy doesnot allow master keying lever tumblerlocks. This is done for the protection ofthe end user.

Lever tumbler locks have a limitednumber of usable keying combinations.Master keying reduces the number ofcombinations to three or four, whichdrastically limits the change keyapplications within a facility.

Master keying lever tumbler locksrequires the bypass of four of the fivetumblers leaving only one tumbler toresist picking attempts. This wouldmake the remaining usablecombinations easy to pick.

A master keyed lock is more easilypicked by an inmate/resident.

Keying Security__________Proper use and care of keys helps tomaintain overall security.

Keys should be handled only by staffpersonnel.

Keys should be stored in a lockedcabinet, in the charge of an executiveofficer.

Staff personnel should conceal thebitted end of the key from view ofinmates. Key shields available.

Keys should never be left in a cylinderor out of reach of the officer.

Doors should be closed and locked afteruse and locks/keepers checkedfrequently for tampering or vandalism.Doors left open for extended periods

should be subject to lock and boltkeeper inspection to eliminateobstructions which may interfere withproper operation.

Templates________________Templates are issued on a job specificbasis only. Southern Folger does notissue registered template books.Templates will be issued upon receipt ofa valid purchase order and hardwareschedule.

Southern Folger reserves the right tomodify template information at any timeand without prior notice. When achange in templates occurs, material willbe shipped in accordance with thetemplates used for each specific job.

Dimensional drawings in this catalog arenot to be used for template information.

Electrical Indication______In systems using custom graphic panelsor electronic monitoring consoles, electrical indication is achieved byadding internal switches to the locks. These switches monitor the condition ofthe lock, indicating its locked orunlocked status. Details on specifyingthese switches are contained on eachproduct page.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When a door is open, the deadlock actuator of the lock may bemanually depressed, giving a falseindication that the door is closed andlocked. To eliminate this false indication, adoor position switch should be installedand wired in series with the indicationswitches of the lock. Then a secureindication may be produced only afterthree conditions have been met:

    1) Deadlock actuator is depressed.

    2) Latchbolt is extended.

    3) The door is closed.

Description______________Series 120MC Deadlatches are pintumbler, motor-operated locks utilizing atwo-position motor cam.

    Specify keying as follows:

121 Keyed case side122 Keyed cover side126 Keyed both sides

Applications_____________Series 120MC Deadlatches are suitable foruse in medium or maximum securitysituations to lock cell, corridor or entrancedoors. Especially appropriate for areasrequiring the latchbolt to remain retracteduntil it is selected to lock again.

Like all Series 120 locks, the jamb-mounted 120MC Deadlatch is designedfor use as part of an electrical system withremote operation and monitoring.

Operations______________Standard (1): Unlocks when the motor isenergized by either a two or threeposition, maintained contact switch, or athree position momentary contact switch.Once unlocked, the latchbolt remainsretracted until it is selected to lock.Opening and closing the door has noeffect on the lock when selected tounlock. The latchbolt extends only whenthe door is opened and the motor isselected to lock. If the door is closed, itmust be opened to extend the latchbolt. Two additional variations on this featureare offered:

Without latchback (1a): Once unlocked, the latchbolt is held retracted only as longas the motor remains in the unlockedposition. A maintained-contact switch maybe used to keep the latchbolt retracted foran extended period of time.

Relock (1b) 09: Once unlocked, thelatchbolt is held retracted until the door isopened. It then extends automatically. This operation requires an additionalcontrol wire, and may be cancelled byadding an additional control switch. Amomentary-contact switch is used forunlocking, and the auxiliary switch is usedfor relocking. When the door is opened, the auxiliary switch repositions the motorto a locked position so that the lock willdeadlatch on closure.

Knob release(2): 120MC Deadlatchesmay be specified with knob release onone side, where the knob is always active.Knob may be mounted on the case side,or the cover side.

Description______________NS400E Series Deadlatches are pintumbler, solenoid-operated locks forswinging doors. Specify buildershardware cylinders and keying asfollows:

    NS402E & NS402EFSKeyed one side

    NS406E & NS406EFSKeyed both sides

Note: See optional features for factory or customer-supplied key cylinders. For modelsNS400E and NS400EFS, no cylinders are supplied.

Applications_____________Specify for minimum/medium securityswinging cell, corridor or administrationareas of institutions with 2" wide hollowmetal jamb construction.

Operations______________A remote switch is used to control thelock electrically, or it may be operatedmechanically by builders hardwarecylinder. These locks offer theconvenience of remote, electricunlocking or locking and automaticdeadlocking when the door is closed.

    Fail-Safe Models

Unlock when solenoid is de-energized(1): by switch or power failure, and thelatch remains retracted while the door isopen. Upon closure, with powerrestored, the latchbolt extends anddeadlocks.

    Non-Fail-Safe Models

Unlock when solenoid is energized(1): by a momentary-contact switch.Latchbolt remains retracted mechanically

until the door is opened. Upon closure, the latchbolt extends automatically(mechanical latchback).

Unlock when solenoid is energized(2): by a momentary-contact switch.Latchbolt is electrically held retractedonly as long as control switch is tripped(no mechanical latchback). The doormust be opened while control switch isin the unlocked position. Upon closure, the latchbolt deadlocks automatically.Continuous-duty feature is standard tohold bolt retracted for extended periods(no latchback, continuous-duty powermodulator).

Unlock when solenoid is energized(3): by a momentary-contact switch.Latchbolt is held electrically retracteduntil door is opened, then it extendsautomatically (electric holdback).

Standards Compliance____ All deadlatch models UL1034

    Burglary-resistant electric deadbolts. Non-fail-safe models, UL10B

Electrically controlled single pointlocks or latches, three-hour rating, A label.
