Explore the large variety of auromatic plants and those of natural remedies by passing through a few of Monchique’s micro climates.

Starting Point. Caldes de Monchique or Longevity.

1. Pass Longevity’s main entrance, bear right uphill passing Xisto stone, Cassia and Medrohno trees.

2. Cross the road, walk past the old school and enjoy the view from the viewling platform.

3. Continue along, past white eucalyptus and domes- tic pines. Take care of the crossing BTT path.

4. By the planato tree turn left down a foodpath. After a small forest find yourself in a desert terrain.

5. Follow the foodpath past the abandoned house, cross the road and walk down into Caldes Park with it’s ‘dribble’ Foundain of Love.

Tip!Do the local thing. A picnic in Caldes Park with grilled sardines and Medronho.

Starting Point. Tourist office in Monchique

1. Walk down to the main square and up the long stairs towards the church. Carry on straight ahead. By the red church, bear right and take a left again until you reach the magnificent Arauca tree.

2. Turn right until passing an alley to your right signing the convent. You may be lucky to be let into the ruin by the family who is occupying it.

3. Walk back down to the centre - straight ahead towards the Magnolia tree.

4. Go straight on, along the narrow footpath past houses and farming terraces. When the road curves, go straight ahead and follow the stream.

Tip!Treat yourself to a Bifani - a hot ham sandwich in Casa Maio opposite the Planato trees.

Starting Point. Tourist Office or Main Square.

1. From the tourist office head straight ahead up a little alley way, turn right and follow the road to the old mill. Take a peek at the traditional farm terraces and follow the alleys to the town centre.

2. By the church ( Chocolate shop), bear left. On your left are two shoemakers.

3. Just before the top of the road, turn right and follow a ramp and stairs down, where you find a view point.

4. Walk down stairs and across towards the church. Behind the church take the stairs down to the road. On your left is the local ceramist.

Tip!Take a detour to the convent and/or treat yourself to a ‘galau’ a white coffee in Ochala or one of the other cafes in the main square.
