Summary of key objectives to 2015
Enlarge ALP network by increasing number of partners and extending geographic reach.
Expand range of courses offered on Dubai Campus. Facilitate supervision of PhD students by Dubai based staff. Work with Dubai staff to develop the Dubai Hub. Grow off-campus numbers through IDL study, ALPs and in collaboration with
other academic partners. Improve balance of DDL activity across programmes. Improve quality and increase numbers of international students recruited to
on-campus programmes. Increase numbers of international research students.

• Commitment to African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (South Africa, Ghana): visiting lecturers, joint PhD supervision

• China: New undergraduate articulation agreement with Fujian Normal University in Fuzhou (FJNU)

External Programmes
Background
SML External Programmes currently has over 2,000 students studying on the Heriot-Watt Management Programme.
Students can take one of five undergraduate ordinary degrees: BA Accountancy; BA Accountancy and Finance; BA Business and Finance; BA Management; and, Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
External Programmes
Modules and Materials:
There are a total of 35 modules available, 30 of which are synoptically-linked for assessment, 5 which are stand-alone.
Modules cover the core modules required for each degree pathway and selected optional modules from on-campus which are seen as most relevant to the International market.
Module materials have been specifically designed, authored and produced by School of Management & Languages.
The External Programmes also delivers an English for Business Studies and English for Science Studies courses via the ALP network. These courses are aimed at bridging the gap between an applicant’s level of English and the HWU minimum entry requirements; it does not result in a qualification.

Key Facts about the Management Programme
Management Programme launched in 1998.
There are two exam sessions (diets) per year (in June and December) where ever module examination can be taken
First Approved Learning Partner (ALP) established in 1999 and now 15 approved institutions in 11 countries.
1,300 Ordinary Degrees awarded
40 Awards of Distinction to date.
Average student pass rate across all module sets is 72%, with continual improvement on annual basis.
Largest Undergraduate Distributed Learning Programme available from Scottish Universities.
Exams are held in approved centres in over 40 countries worldwide, and examined to the same high standards as students attending the University in the UK
