NO CANTEEN TOMORROW THANK YOU FOR A GREAT YEAR Brisbania is a terrific school with outstanding, supportive teachers who give their best each and every day. They are led by an outstanding Executive team- Mrs Duruz, Miss Chapman, Miss Iles and Ms Howarth who have all coordinated their stages, been flexible and supportive and have really lead our Bump It Up initiative producing growth in all students and teachers. THANK YOU for all your leadership, guidance, care and support.

In 2018, Miss Chapman fulfilled a High Expections Mentor role where her focus was to Bump up our Reading and Numeracy results. This has been achieved through in class support, teachers observing other teachers, assessment analysis, NAPLAN analysis and Professional Learning. She has done an outstanding job in her role and we look forward to further progress in 2019.

Without our support staff who are essential to our school, the grounds, office and students would not look or function as efficiently as they do. We thank them for all they do.

It has been a privilege to work with the 2018 Student Leadership Team- Molly, Blake, Beau, Clayton, Allira and William. Your pride in the school and the dignified fashion in which you have carried out your role is a real tribute to you. Thank you and all the best in your future endeavours.

The Student Representative Council was coordinated again by Miss Chapman allowing Years 2-6 to have a voice, share ideas and report back to their class.

The excursions to The Great Aussie Bush Camp, Canberra, Barangaroo and The Observatory and Taronga Zoo provided valuable experiences that I’m sure the students will always remember. As were the Year 6 mini fete, our Amazing fete and the Christmas disco.

K-6 participated in Sport In Schools, increasing their ability in fundamental movement skills and gymnastics. Swim Scheme ran for Year Two to increase swimming skills. Our Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country carnivals were also held showing sportsmanship, perseverance and enjoyment. We participated in Ball Games, Oztag, Soccer, Backyard League, Rugby League and Netball.

We participated in the Premier’s Sporting, Reading and Spelling challenges and the UNSW competitions.

NAIDOC week celebrated our Aboriginal culture with engaging activities to support pride in all students of our Aboriginal heritage. It began with a moving smoking ceremony that had Brisbania captivated.

2018 saw the introduction of a Student Wellbeing Officer who supported students coupled with the Learning and Support team overseeing support for students throughout the year. Enrichment groups have been running across a range of areas including STEM, drumming, public speaking and Mathematics, where our girls’ team were awarded Highly Commended.

Our commitment to smooth transition programs continued to support all students whether coming to Kindy, moving through the grades at Brisbania or preparing students for high school.

We participated in the Central Coast Drama and Dance Festivals, Public Speaking Competition and GATs camps as well as many team sports and the ball games carnival. Our Girls Rugby League team were representatives in the state semi finals in Sydney.

Our world champion surf life saver/ teacher librarian, Mr Lemmon, organized our book parade with students and staff taking great effort to look amazing as favourite book characters.

You Can Do It helps build resilience as one of the 5 keys to successful learning in addition to getting along, confidence, organization and persistence which supports our school motto of Believe Persevere and Succeed. We introduced the Colour Run as an extra reward for students in Term 4 that was enjoyed by all invited to attend last Friday.

We celebrate success and special dates- Sorry Day, Anzac Day, Reconcilation Day, Harmony Day, National Anti-Bullying Day, Day for Daniel, Education Week and Grandparents’ Day.

Our Environmental initiatives continued with Mrs Farncomb, Mrs Vanderstichel and Mrs Masters. Stage Two and Three worked with Rumbalara Environmental Education Centre on Biodiversity and Energy for incursions. Other incursions included Life Education and World of Maths for Stages Two and Three.

Student results in NAPLAN have shown growth with our target of 42% in the top two bands of Reading and Numeracy by 2019, well on the way with 37.32% Teachers have been engaged in a refocus on explicit teaching of Writing, Reading Comprehension and Numeracy to support our Bump It Up goals. We trialed the new platform for NAPLAN online this term, in preparation for NAPLAN online in 2019.

We are Sustaining and Growing on our value added data and have moved into Sustaining and Growing on the School Excellence Framework, due to staff dedication, professional learning and quality teaching.

Our P&C have been extremely proactive this year with very profitable fundraisers- cake stalls, discos, BBQ at the K-2 Athletics carnival, raffles and the wonderful fete. The backfield has turned green instead of the dirt, which is greatly appreciated.

An Assembly of Excellence, followed by morning tea was held at the end of Terms 1, 2 and 3 to celebrate academic citizenship, Creative Arts or sports achievements.

Erina Learning Community Education Week Performance at Erina Fair and Creative Arts Festival at Erina HS was a great showcase in November of our Creative Arts talent.

Our choir brang joy to the community on Saturday morning at Saratoga shops and the choir and dance groups performed at Alloura Waters on Wednesday. Thanks for all the practice and time you give!

Thank you to all our volunteers who assist the school by helping at school, driving teams to sporting events, coaching teams, organising the Year 6 farewell and supporting Brisbania at key events.

Kindergarten decorated a Christmas tree at Erina Fair, which is obviously the best, and you can vote for your favourite to win the school some money. Last year’s money went towards decorating our new school Christmas tree and items for Kindergarten.

Brisbania is a wonderful school that I am so proud to be the principal of. I have the best students and staff and a supportive community.

Unfortunately, we had to farewell Mr Anderson this year as he moved to retirement and now it is time to farewell another valued member of staff, Miss Kylie Iles, who is changing her career direction to become a school counsellor. Miss Iles has been an outstanding Relieving Assistant Principal for the past two years, colleague, mentor and teacher. I have no doubt she will be one of the best school counsellors with her passion for students, commitment to equity and dedication.

All the best, Miss Iles, we will miss you at Brisbania but feel very fortunate that you have have been part of the Brisbania community.

2018 has been a very busy, enjoyable, productive year. Well done to you all. You should be very proud of yourselves and deserve a safe, healthy, happy holiday.

The school year ends at 2:50pm on Wednesday 19 December for students and staff.

CANTEEN

ROSTER

We had a lovely end-of-year celebration at the Davo on Wednesday night. Congratulations to Julie Hale on her Life Member award. Julie has been Uniform Shop co-ordinator for the past 7 years, as well as being an actively involved P&C member. It is impossible to list all her contributions to our school, there are just too many. We will really miss you, Julie, so please come visit us. The canteen is closed for cleaning on Wednesday so please ensure that all children have fruit break, recess and lunch in their bags on Wednesday. We still need more volunteers to help in the canteen in term 1 2019. Please contact the canteen if you can help. Thanks to Paula and Rose for all their hard work in the canteen this year. We hope you have a well-deserved rest over the school holidays. The uniform shop will be opening on 29 January from 8.30-9.30 for any last minute uniform purchases before school starts! It is usually a very busy day so please be patient if you have to wait. Please remember that the staff in the uniform shop are volunteers who are giving up their time on the last day of the school holidays to help. There are currently no senior caps in stock and although an order has been placed we cannot guarantee that they will arrive in time for the beginning of the new school year. We will let you know as soon as they have arrived. In 2019 the uniform shop co-ordinator role will be shared by Renae Godden and Caitlin Richards. A huge thank you to these mums for volunteering to do this important job so that we can continue to offer this service to the school community. Have a good week Suzanne Petrie Sapsford P&C President 0423 036 697
