• I was included in a focus group research questionnaire with people in my class. We discussed a number of questions that were related to magazines and what they include.

Question 1

• Question: what magazines do you read the most?

• Answer: the most common genre was music magazines There was then further discussion where is was apparent that gossip and fashion magazines were also read.

• Question: what price would you be okay paying for a magazine?

• Answer: everyone in the group either individually said themselves, or agreed with someone else that they would pay between £2 and £3.

• Question: Approximately how many magazines do you purchase in a month?

• Answer: some people said that they do not buy magazines regularly, because of this they couldn’t put a number on how many they buy a month. They said that they buy magazines depending on content in the issue.

• Question: what’s your favourite music magazine?

• Answer: magazines that got mentioned consisted of: NME, Billboard and Q.

• Question: would you prefer the articles in magazines to be interviews from artists rather than anything else?

• Answer: yes was a unanimous decision across the focus group

• From this focus group, I found out what makes a successful magazine. • 1. the genre of my magazine will be music.• 2. the price of my magazine will be £2-£3.• 3. the appearance of my magazine will be eye catching as

that’s what my focus group said they would look out for.• 4. my magazine will be inspired by those like NME, Q, etc.• 5. the article on my double page spread will be an interview.
