Introduction

The clients for this project will be up and coming local bands/solo musicians that we will be working with to

record, mix and then film. There isnt really a specific genre for the work which shall be submitting due to itbeing more of an internet show with an array of different artists but would say that there is definitely an

audience for this style of work, this audience will consist of people looking for undisco!ered music and

musicians or just people who generally enjoy casually listening to music whilst surfing the web. "ertainly with

this style of work there are clear precedents in the marketplace witch organi#ations such as $%&P who are

based in 'eattle in the city of (ashington. Triple J who are based in )ustralia or e!en in %ngland we ha!e

our own e*ui!alent which is +adio s -i!e -ounge sessions.

These websites are all ordinarily a source of online radio but also do li!e !ideos of performances by !arious

bands of !arious genres which then get uploaded to either a youtube channel or to the creators website

where they will be archi!ed and a!ailable for !iewing online at later dates.

The !ideos will all be filmed in the same room 8The 'ondheim room9 for the sake of consistency,

professionalism and the projects namesake.

The audio will also all be recorded in the !ocal booth of 'tudio or the 'ondheim room due to the *uality of

audio recordings a!ailable in these rooms.

The production goal for this unit will be to get four original songs recorded by !arious artists and one co!er

song by any of these artists who will be happy to oblige, as well as accompanying !ideos for each of these

songs. The co!er song would be used to help produce bu## for the project by being the first to be released

and then one song e!ery other week until all fi!e are released.

Suburbia Tainted Love

Instrumentation

The instruments recorded and mixed in this track are as followed:

Drum kit with x2 Floor Tom, Four string electric bass guitar, Six string lead guitar and one main

vocalist.

Insiration Track

This song is a cover of a cover in a different st!le than the original. This cover was first erformed

The band who we had in to record this song also desired to record their own st!le onto this song

which I think can be heard uite clearl! in the finished mix.

Target Sound

The desired sound for the final mix of this song was suosed to be uite unk! and unch! and I

think I achieved that uite well in the recording b! using a saced airing to record the drums but

not having the overheads too distant from the kit to achieve a closer, more full sounding drum

recording.

The ke! instruments within this track to mix it to a standard wanted b! the clients were the drums

and the lead guitar. +istening to the insiration track and the musicians themselves these ke!

instruments uickl! became obvious as imortant ieces of the ule to get a rofessional

sounding cover.

0hile mixing this track I used 1&ing on the drums I oened the 3ain insert on the lower snare

recording and reversed the hase so that the olarit! of the microhones and the audio wave from

the to snare recording were not cancelling each other out at all.

4n the left 5 right overhead condenser microhone recordings I added a small shelving 1& to the

high end of 67-8 uwards to be slightl! boosted so that more of the c!mbals and higherfreuencies from the overall drum kit would come through in the mix.

4n the vocals I alied a small low freuenc! cut and also attenuated a small amount at around

699"698 due to the bass in the vocalists voice being uite rominent and this sounded like it

heled the track to increase in clarit! after I had alied other audio inserts such as the built in logic

ro x silver reverb with high dr! signal and 29; wet signal as well as th dotted note feedback reset on the tae dela! gave me the effect I reuired without toomuch tweaking.

To the vocals I also added the insert of overdrive and distortion to hel create more of a growl and

to tr! and hel make the vocals sound a little rougher but without losing clarit!.

Due to the lead guitar being DId into the IS= 4ne in Studio 6 and alread! going through the

guitarists edal board, I chose to al! a logic ro x guitar am and for the am I chose to use the

)lean ?5@ am as this didnt distort an! of the sound but still gave me enough control over the

freuencies to al! changes to the guitar tone easil!. =lso b! al!ing a guitar am insert I was

able to emulate microhone lacement which is used to affect which freuencies are icked u b!

the virtual microhone being miked u to the virtual guitar am.

The bass guitar was DId into the stage DI box in the Sondheim room and then during mixing I also

added a bass am to this, I chose to use a clean >9s bass combo for this as I found that it relicated

the sound of a genuine clean bass am sufficientl! after also ad*usting the microhone lacement.

1valuation

The recording and mixing art of this track went ver! well. The onl! thing I wish I had done would

have been to set the lead guitar u still going through the guitarists edal board but to have miked

u a real amlifier and recorded the signal this wa! to get a more genuine recording.

The video for this song could not be comleted due to schedule clashing of the media crew, sound

crew and the band themselves unfortunatel!.
