You will learn to:
Handle situations in which the FMLA certification is not returned, incomplete or late
Deal with the complexities of intermittent leave law and the areas in which you have
options

Tell us a little about
yourself.
My childhood dream came
true when I came to the
United States in 1967 to
attend college. I am a
1972 graduate of
University of
the Ozarks,
Clarksville,
Arkansas, with a degree in Business
Administration and minor in
Accounting. I entered insurance
and financial services in 1972, and
later in 1979, I became an
American citizen. I am the founder
the President of Arkansas LTC
Agency, Inc. (ARLTC) and 1 MediGap
Corporation.
How many years have you worked as an HR
professional?
Although my focus in not on Human Resources, I
have a bona fide interest in this field. My agency
offers Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage
and Prescription Drug Plans (PDP) for those
employees who are approaching retirement age or
currently are over age 65 and still working. I enjoy
helping people prepare for retirement and living a
good, long, happy life.
In your opinion, what is the most
challenging aspect of your job?
Customizing a suitable plan to meet
the needs and budget of individuals
is like putting a puzzle together. I
enjoy the challenge of this.
How has being a member of
HRMA helped you in your
career?
Being a member of this wonderful
organization has enabled me to see
what HR professionals do. It helps me
learn how to best help them.
“ I enjoy helping
people prepare
for retirement
and living a
good, long, happy life.”

HOW TO CONDUCT EFFECTIVE
INVESTIGATIONS
Brianna Cook, J.D.
Gill Ragon Owen
When it comes to resolving
workplace investigations, how
you respond to issues ranging
from discrimination and sexual
harassment claims to technology
abuse and theft can be the
difference between a quick
resolution and an expensive
lawsuit.
Legal red tape and the pressure to resolve issues
quickly can make the process stressful, complicated
and intimidating. Yet your credibility and your
organization’s success depend on your ability to
conduct effective, legally sound investigations.
During this interactive session, you will have a firm
grasp of the critical dos and don’ts of handling
complaints. You’ll know how to avoid common
mistakes that can trip you up and cost you time and
money. Learn strategy for planning, conducting,
documenting and finalizing every stage of the
investigation.
YOU WILL LEARN: Determining when an investigation is necessary
Federal laws requiring an investigation
Privacy issues in workplace investigations
How to conduct a legally compliant
investigation
How to finalize the investigation so there’s a
clear resolution and no loose ends
