Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! Closely related to a popular Chinese folklore, it holds that Chang’e found herself flying towards the moon after consuming an immortality elixir. Apart from that, there are various other colourful myths and meanings that underpin this festival, ranging from the traditional mid-autumn harvest to fertility and even immortality during the ancient times.

Colourful lanterns lit-up the night skies, and the season is marked with abundance of mooncakes at various retailers. Celebrated on every 15th day of the 8th month in the lunar calendar, this festivity is held across the city, prominently in Chinatown. The moon is supposedly at its brightest and roundest during that time, and the perfect circle of the moon represents a harmonious union, which is a key motif of this festival. SLEEPING BEAUTY

Not getting enough sleep - You have dark circles forming under your eyes, your skin sags and leaves eye bags. Not to forget, it’s also bad for your health. If you are up late drinking and smoking, that’s even more bad news for your skin. Alcohol affects sleep quality and smoking leads to premature wrinkles.

The good thing about skin is that it recovers quickly. Your skin and whole body goes into repair mode when you sleep, where your new skin cells grow and replace older cells. All you need to do is get a good night’s sleep of seven to eight hours, but try not to oversleep!

SKIN DEEP HOUSE OF BEAUTY

To keep your face looking as youthful as possible, you need proper skincare at home. First and foremost, you have to make sure to choose products specifically suited for your skin type.

Dry skin has different needs from oily skin, and sensitive skin require gentler products to see results. Outlining a basic 4-Step skincare routine, this process allows you to properly cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize and protect your skin.

1. Cleansing: Wash your face at night to remove any dirt and clogged pores with a gentle cleanser, and in the morning, all you need is a splash of lukewarm water on your face. If you swear by toners too, use it!!

2. Exfoliation: Once you start exfoliating your skin once a week, you will notice an almost immediate difference. Get yourself a facial scrub and massage it on your skin in a circular motion. After a quick rinse, any trace of dead skin is erased.

3. Moisturize: To keep the skin well moisturized, it is important to choose a daily moisturizer that balance the level of water within the skin to keep your skin feeling soft and glowing.

4. Raise the Heat Shield: Slather on about a shot glass full of sunscreen when you go out and don’t go any lower than SPF 45. If you love the way you look with a tan, then it’s tough to change your mind. But just a reminder, sun damage is the #1 cause of wrinkles.

The world of facials can be understandably daunting for a first-time client, because they don’t know what to truly expect from the many exotic-sounding treatments and new technologies emerging.
