Innovative Design Offers Exceptional Options

The entire fluid power series has been designed foreducational growth. Using either the Hydraulics orthe Pneumatics Training System, students gain asolid foundation in, and hands-on experience with,fluid power components and circuits, the principlesand concepts underlying fluid power systems andapplications, and methods of troubleshooting andtesting fluid systems. Each lesson builds upon previous lessons, making this an ideal job-trainingprogram.

Engineered for extreme ease of use, the core systembegins with a work surface assembly consisting of asolid metal, universal drip-tray hinged to a perforated, tiltable work surface that serves as a

panel onto which hydraulics or pneumatics com-ponents are mounted. By adding optional

expansion panels, the work surface can beconfigured to accommodate a wide varietyof space and teaching needs. Mounting

and dismounting components is easywith push-lock fasteners that snap

easily into the perforations on thework surface. The tilting work

surface facilitates instructordemonstration to an entireclass.

Ideal for Training Centers Tight on Budget and Space

The basic Lab-Volt Hydraulics Training System consists ofa power unit, work surface assembly, industrial-grade components, hoses, a hose rack, metering instruments andrelated courseware. The basic Pneumatics Training Systemconsists of a work surface assembly, pneumatic components, measuring instruments and necessary pneumatic accessories to perform experiments. All components in both systems exceed industrial safety standards. Hydraulic connections are made through double-check valve quick-disconnect fittings. Optionalequipment includes a mobile support bench with expandable storage shelves, lockable dress panels andadditional expansion panels.

Operating on a standard electrical supply, the Hydraulicssystem requires no special wiring. The power unit isdesigned to match components with training needs. Thepump (3.0 l/min, 0.8 U.S. gal/min) delivers flow to components at a rate that allows for observation and ispowerful enough to provide pressures in excess of 6200kPa or 900 psi.

The scope of the entire Lab-Volt Fluid Power product lineaddresses the diverse needs of secondary and post-secondary technology programs. The interfacing ofelectronics, sensors, robots and controls makes the Lab-Volt program an ideal cornerstone of any job-trainingprogram in Mechatronics, Electromechanical Systems orAutomation.

Models 6080-1, 6080-A and 6080-BThe Lab-Volt Hydraulics Training System begins with Hydraulics Fundamentals, the first in a series of five subsystemsthat take students from basic to advanced training in industry-standard hydraulic applications.

The standard modular system consists of a perforated work surface, components for the Hydraulics Fundamentalscourse, a drip tray attached at the bottom of the work surface, a hose rack with hydraulic hoses, and a power supply unitin a mobile frame.

The work surface and components (Model 6080-1) can be placed on a table, on an optional workbench containing sliding channels for storing additional work surfaces (Model 6080-A), or a lockable, paneled bench (Model 6080-B).

Model 6080-2

Electrical Control of Hydraulic Systems introduces studentsto electrical concepts and electrically controlled hydraulicsystems. Through hands-on experimentation, students gainfamiliarity with functional and industrial electrically con-trolled hydraulic systems while learning systematic methodsof troubleshooting and testing electrically controlledhydraulic systems.

Virtual Laboratory Equipment for Hydraulics

To provide training centers and students with a fast andeffective instructional tool, Lab-Volt has created a series ofWindows®-based simulation software programs (LVSIM®)that cover the same material and produce the same resultsas actual laboratory equipment. The Lab-Volt Hydraulicstraining systems, Models 6080-1/2, also are available as anLVSIM program.

Computer-screen images represent the standard laboratoryequipment and fully simulate the mechanical characteristicsof the actual hydraulic module. Using the mouse, studentscan select and set up virtual equipment for a given exercise,make the necessary connections between the simulatedmodules and obtain the same results as with the real equip-ment.

Used either as a complement to the actual laboratory equip-ment or as a stand-alone product, LVSIM is a cost-effectivetool that enables students to safely and accurately performexperiments and become familiar with the equipment con-figuration and laboratory setup before entering the lab. As aresult, their time spent in duplicating hands-on tasks in theactual laboratory may be reduced by as much as 50%, result-ing in the need for less physical hardware per student. Inaddition, students can install a limited version of theLVSIM software into their own computers, and practiceand prepare in advance for their lab exercises.

Sample screens from the LVSIM-HYD show simulations of the HydraulicsTraining System. Using virtual components, meters, gauges and hoses, studentscan perform the same experiments and derive the same results as they would withactual laboratory equipment.

The Servo/Proportional Control module is an add-on to the Electrical Control system for theHydraulics Training System. Through hands-onoperation of signal conditioners; pressure, speed,and position transducers; P.I.D. controllers; propor-tional control valves; and corresponding interfacehardware and courseware, students are trained in theprecise controls used in industrial applications suchas robotics, aviation, CNC machines, marine, mobileequipment and material handling.

All exercises require Basic and Electrical Control ofHydraulics (Models 6080-1 and 6080-2).

Models 6081-1 and 6081-2The Pneumatics Training System follows the samestructure and uses the same work bench and many elec-trical components as the Hydraulics Training System,Model 6080, providing a convenient interconnectionbetween both systems.

The Pneumatics Fundamentals system provides stu-dents with an introduction to the basic principles andcomponents of pneumatic systems. Electrical Controlof Pneumatic Systems introduces students to electricalcontrol of pneumatic systems using ladder diagrams.Fluid Control Applications add-ons consist of the samePLC, Servo/Proportional Control and Sensors mod-ules found in the Hydraulics Training System.

Learning material, in both the manual and simulationformats, is divided into units consisting of exerciseswithin a specific field of pneumatics. Each exerciseprovides a clearly stated objective, a discussion, refer-ences, a summary of the exercise procedure, a conclu-sion, a set of review questions and a 10-question test atthe end of the unit.

Virtual Laboratory Equipment for PneumaticsSimilar to LVSIM-HYD, this simulation software programprovides fast and effective training. By gaining familiaritywith equipment prior to entering the actual laboratory, eitherin the classroom or on their own computers at home,students may spend significantly less time (a reduction of upto 50%) using the actual equipment. In addition, each studentwould require less physical hardware, so the training systemis cost-effective, as well. The Lab-Volt Pneumatics trainingsystem, Models 6081-1/2, also are available as an LVSIM program.

LVSIM-PNEU can be used as astand-alone product or as a complement to the actual labora-tory equipment. In addition, itcan be loaded together withLVSIM-HYD. T h i s a l l o w s students to view and work withvirtual components for bothhydraulics and pneumatics at thesame time.

Model 6082-XUsing a PLC with either the Hydraulics or PneumaticsTraining System, students learn how to send instructionsfrom the PLC and download ladder programs in order tooperate fluid power circuits by means of switches, sensorsand solenoid-operated directional valves. The P L C alsoallows students to make comparisons with relay operatedcontrol circuits and design time-delay circuits, up and downcounting circuits, latch and unlatch circuits, and more.

The system consists of a PLC equipped with input/output 2-mm banana sockets, allowing quick interconnection to components, along with a basic hand-held programmer oradvanced PC interface software, an expansion work surfaceand curriculum.

The PLC is available in basic and advanced models: theAllen Bradley Model 6082-1 (basic) and 6082-5 (advanced);the OMRON Model 6082-2 (basic) and 6082-5 (advanced),and the Siemens Model 6082-3 (basic) and 6082-7(advanced).

Model 6085-AThe Lab-Volt Sensors Training System, Model 6085-A, isdesigned to familiarize students with the operation ofvarious sensor types. This training system is available as anadd-on to the Electrical Control of Hydraulic Systems,Model 6080-2, and Electrical Control of PneumaticSystems, Model 6081-2. It is also available as a stand-alonesystem. The Sensors Training System contains a selection ofphotoelectric, inductive and capacitive sensors representa-tive of what can be found in industry.

Each sensor is mounted on a flexible support attached to ametallic base, which can be snapped into the perforations ofthe Hydraulics and Pneumatics Trainer work surfaces. Thesensors are protected against reverse polarity and can beused in conjunction with a Programmable Logic Controllerto achieve advance fluid control applications.

As a stand-alone system, the Sensors Training System alsoincludes a power supply, pilot lamps, leads and a work surface.
