Flower Friends, Global Themes
In 3 Cheers for Animals!, the flower friends tell stories of visits to their
homelands. If the girls already enjoyed Welcome to the Daisy Flower
Garden or Between Earth and Sky, they may remember that the flowers
come from various parts of the country and have family all around the world.
This makes them a great springboard for exploring various cultures. You might
invite teens or adults who grew up in regions other than your own to join a
Daisy gathering to talk about their hometowns, and the activities they enjoy
there. Guide the Daisies to see that differences are what make people and
places—and animals—unique and interesting, and that differences, as well
as similarities, are to be respected and appreciated.
Vi, the violet, is from Australia. She’s at home in the Daisy garden and enjoys the whole adventure.
Tula, the tulip, is from Holland and her family is originally from Iran. She’s a main character all through this journey.
Mari, the marigold, is from Africa and she tells the story of a visit home to the country of Tanzania.
