The Davis College of Business at Jacksonville University and Florida Coastal School of Law have created a joint degree program through which qualified students may pursue a Juris Doctor (JD) and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from both schools simultaneously. Graduates with a joint JD/MBA degree can develop the skills needed to pursue careers in the business and legal professions, especially where those areas overlap such as investment and commercial banking, management consulting, government regulation, and business policy analysis.

Why pursue this joint degree? This JD/MBA program offers an unparalleled combination of legal and business education, allowing students to apply nine credits earned at Coastal Law to the credits required for the MBA degree and nine credits earned at Davis in MBA courses to the JD degree. In addition to concurrently participating in the academic and social life of both schools, students will be able to obtain both diplomas in four years, as compared to the five years required to earn both degrees when pursued separately.

How do I enroll?Students with baccalaureate degrees in any field are welcome to apply. Coastal Law reviews applications on a rolling basis and later submissions will still be considered. Applicants must meet the entrance requirements for both Coastal Law and Davis and be accepted into each institution. Additionally, a dual degree enrollment form must be approved by each school. Admission to one program does not guarantee that an applicant will be admitted to the other.

OVERVIEW

Page 3: Florida Coastal School of Law -- JD/MBA

Enrolling in the Jacksonville University and Coastal Law joint JD/MBA program was one of the smartest decisions I could have made. I earned both valuable degrees in a fraction of the time it would have taken had I pursued them separately.

How is credit transferred?Grades earned at Davis toward the JD degree will not be factored into the student’s Coastal Law grade point average. As long as the student earns a “C” or better in the MBA courses, these transfer courses and credits will be noted on the student’s Coastal Law transcript with the notation “T” plus the grade earned in that course at Davis, e.g. TB+ or TA-. The reverse is true for the nine credits earned at Coastal Law towards the MBA degree.

Is Financial Aid Available?Yes, Financial Aid is available for qualified students. Contact the Financial Aid office at either school for more information.

Can students pursue only one degree after enrolling in the dual program?Yes. Students may withdraw from the concurrent-degree program at any time and continue toward earning the degree of their choice.

Are students currently attending either school able to apply?Yes. A student may apply for admission to the joint degree at any point while attending Coastal Law or Davis College of Business. However, the length of time necessary to complete the two degrees may differ depending on when the student enrolls.
