    SUMMARYThisrevisionaddressesthemanychangesthathaveoccurredinhealthcareflooringsincepublicationofthepreviouseditionin1988.Thesechangeshaveoccurredintheareaofproducts,sustainabilityandlegislation.Particularly,theBuildingCodeofAustralia(BCA)andDisabilityDiscriminationAct(DDA),OccupationalHealthandSafety(OHS)andfloorsafety;andintheawarenessoftheinteractionbetweenindoorenvironmentandoccupantwellbeing.Choicehasbecomeincreasinglydifficultduetotheexpandingrangeofavailableproducts,thecomplexityoffactorstobeconsidered,andthevariationbetweendifferentproductswithinanyoneflooringtype.Section1providesanintroductionthatcoverstheincreasingimportanceofsomeissues,newtopics,materialsandthesignificantincreaseinregulationsandstandardsrelatingtoflooring.Section2providesaclassificationofflooringandexaminesselectiononthebasisofperformance,coveringwholeoflifecosting,sustainability,riskmanagement,OHS,slipresistance,infectioncontrol,interiorenvironment,StandardsandRegulations.Commentonmaintenance,constructionandwarrantiesareincluded.Sections3to14covereachfloorfinishmaterialbytype,e.g.carpet,vinyl,rubber,linoleum,ceramictiling,seamlesscoatingsandincludesproductsmadeforspecificpurposes.Alsocoveredarematting,accessories,outdoorflooring,andothercommercialfloormaterialslessoftenusedinhealthcare.Section15providesschedulesofrecommendedfloorfinishesincludingtablesofstandardandtypicalroomswithrecommendedfloorfinishesforeach.Sections16to22containcommonusedterminologyandabbreviations;relevantreferencesincludinglegislations,standards,guidelinesanddirectives,suggestionsforfurtherreadingandlistsoforganisations/tradeassociationsandtechnicalappendices.
