This summer the information will be used by local communities for floodplain management purposes as well has insurance agents and lenders for rating and requiring flood insurance. If an individual property owner's flood risk is increasing based on the updated information they may soon be required to purchase flood insurance. They may also see a decrease in flood risk which may mean flood insurance is no longer required but still recommended.
