With the flooding over the 2014/2013 period affecting countless numbers of people, businesses and property across the UK, the Government has published guidance with regards to various grants and schemes for those concerned. The grants and schemes available include: • Business rates flooding relief – 100% tax relief on business rates for 3 months; • A business support scheme which is available to small and medium-sized businesses to develop and implement business recovery plans; • Repair and renew grant which will provide financial support to pay for work that improves a property’s ability to withstand future flooding; • Funding of up to £4m in support of council tax discounts for homes that have been flooded. The guidance sets out the eligibility criteria for these funds and provides high-level guidance to local authorities who will be responsible for administering these schemes in local areas.
