Contractor to prepare a detailed method statement for the proposed works forerecting an RC Floodwall around the perimeter of the Bowling Green, which shallinclude [ as a minimum] the following requirements:

Contractor to set up site preliminaries including offices /messes and site boundarysafety fencing around the bowling green, parts of the access road and parkingarea. All appropriate access permissions to be acquired from affected landowners. Contractor to conduct trial pits (hand dug) to confirm the locations of existingservices and take reasonable measures to protect services affected by the works. Contractor will commence site clearance operations, this will include removal ofvegetation, garden furniture, garden path surfacing, slabs and the contents ofsheds either to be carefully stockpiled for re -use or disposed of in a licensed tip. Contractor will commence demolition operations consisting primarily ofremoving an existing brockwork boundary wall and two existing timber sheds. The Contractor will adopt safe methods of working to ensure the existing walland sheds will not be prone to collapse during demolition operations. Thecontractor will also have special measures in place as directed by SEPAguidelines to prevent any demolition debris and other pollutants entering thewatercourse. This will include ensuring all construction plant and storage areaswill be set back from the watercourse and river banks. Contractor will excavate foundations for the proposed flood wall. Foundations areshallow, therefore no temporary works such as sheet piling are envisaged to berequired for excavations. Where possible, existing turf /topsoil will be stockpiledand re -used.

In the unlikely event the findings of Ground Investigations specify a requirementfor additional seepage protection, a membrane of non - structural sheet piles willbe installed beneath, or in front of, the proposed RC flood wall. Contractor will erect the proposed flood wall reinforcement, shuttering includingexpansion joints, and cast concrete in -situ. All formwork will be checked forleaks/ bleeding during pouring operations and any identified instances of groutegress will be immediately plugged and cleaned away. The contractor will ensureall surplus concrete /grout is transported away from the site and disposed of in alicensed tip. After the flood wall has cured sufficiently, the concrete set beneath existingground levels will be waterproofed with layers bituminous coating applied byroller or brush. The wall will then be clad in brickwork. Material spills ofbituminous material will be cleaned away as appropriate to prevent contaminatingthe soil.

New sheds will be installed to replace the existing. The landscape and gardenpaths /furniture etc will be restored.

The contractor will remove all trace of the preliminary items including temporaryfencing, messes and stores.

    Other requirements:

Any portable compressors or generators will be provided with spillage containmentunits in accordance with the Contract Special Requirements to capture any leakagefrom plant

Spill kits will also be present at the site at all times.

Contractor shall develop a detailed method statement for rock armour bank protectionworks, which shall include ( as a minimum) the following requirements:

Access to the site will be via the road access to the Playing Field and PlayingField Pavilion.

When using access roads banksman will be aware of pedestrian movement andmake sure site traffic passes safely. When working on or near riverbank machine operatives will take cognizance ofground conditions before working in or adjacent to the river. The site will have a temporary fence in place to prevent unauthorised access tothe river.

An anti - pollution barrier and appropriate method of trapping sediment will bedeployed along the river to prevent any spillages escaping downstream. Contractor will ensure they are using bio- diesel in machinery when working closeto the watercourse.

Construction work for the lower half of the revetment atibeneath river bed levelto be undertaken during low flows. Check condition of the existing rock armour revetment. Prepare ground for construction of Main Street surface water outfall. Using an excavator place foundation and toe scour rock below outfall. Install surface water outfall and protect with rock armour.

Construct protective concrete casing for gas pipe on riverbank. Excavator to work from the top of the right riverbank, wherever possible, preparing the length of riverbank for geotextile and rock armour placement. Working from upstream to downstream lay geotextile layer along the riverbank, construct the lower half of the rock armour revetment from the riverbed level tohalfway up the bank. Continue along the entire length of the revetment. Repeat process for the upper part of the bank.

At the downstream end tie into the existing bank profile once Playing FieldPavilion and Scottish Water outfall have been removed.

Re- profile and seed soil behind with appropriate amenity mix.

Contractor shall develop a detailed method statement for sheet pile installation atVector Aerospace, which shall include ( as a minimum) the following requirements:

Sheet piling location to be scanned for existing or out -of- service utilities prior toany construction works. Sheet piling location to be set back from river bank as per drawing 1033064- 1600 -001.

Contractor to keep all plant remote from East Pow Burn. Machinery is notpermitted to enter the East Pow Burn for Contract 1 sheet pile installation works.

Sheet piles are set back approximately 11 metres horizontally from normal flowchannel, which shall provide a sufficient buffer strip for pollution prevention.

Any portable compressors or generators to be provided with spillage containmentunits in accordance with the Contract Special Requirements to capture anyleakage from plant.

Contractor to install approximately 41 linear metres of sheet pile wall at thelocation shown on drawing number 1033064 - 1600 -001. Contractor to employ hand - digging to a depth of 1. 2 metres below existingground level to ensure no utility services or tree root will be damaged by pilingoperations.

Contractor may ( as an alternative) provide a detailed method statement formechanical excavation to 1. 2 metres depth with a toothless bucket andappropriate, constant supervision of excavation works. Mechanical excavation

methodology must be approved by the Engineer prior to commencement andmust demonstrate a suitable thin scraping method for achieving the depthrequired without risking damage to buried plant or tree roots. Turf /topsoil to be set aside and reused by the Contractor wherever possible, stockpiled adjacent to the works and kept remote from the East Pow Burn toprevent sediment run -off into the Burn as a result of site works, rainfall or anyother external factor. Any excess material will be removed from site and eitherrecycled on a separate project or taken to an appropriate facility. Contractor to install piling platform and install piling equipment on platform. Contractor to ensure accurate pile installation via use of any proprietarytemplate /guide structure for the particular product used. Contractor to install sheet piles sequentially using a crawler rig (or approvedequivalent) and the appropriate driving methodology and pile protection to thedesigned depth and to the top of sheet pile wall levels required in the Contract. Contractor to liaise with the Engineer throughout sheet pile installation andhighlight any locations where difficulty is encountered installing piles through thealluvial strata.

Contractor shall undertake water sampling downstream of the sheet piling worksas directed by the Engineer, in accordance with SEPA and Vector Aerospacerequirements.

Contractor shall take cognizance of all overhead obstructions at, and on theapproaches to, the site within the detailed method statement.

Contractor shall provide measures for recording wind speeds during sheet pileinstallation and include within the detailed method statement a procedure forsafely dealing with high wind speeds /gusts. Contractor shall provide a methodology for testing of installed sheet piles toensure successful pile interlocking and acceptable condition of driven piles. Contractor shall reinstate the grassed area and security fence on VectorAerospace land to the satisfaction of the Engineer.
