Cultural Student Centre Usva is the cultural facility of the University of Groningen. Usva wants to encourage students to develop themselves and to inspire them by art and culture. Besides that, Usva is the cultural platform in the city where students have the opportunity to meet and engage with culture.

At Usva, you can follow various courses in the field of art and culture. We also organize events and every week you can see theatre performances in our theatre. Aside from that, Usva supports students in cultural projects. Financially, but also with facilities and knowledge. It is also possible to rent halls or the theatre. Additionally, Usva offers students the possibility to work in the board or to volunteer in one of the committees.

Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is one of the biggest interdisciplinary student associations in Europe, founded in 1989 for supporting and developing student exchange. We are present in 416 Higher Education Institutions in 36 countries and still expanding.

The main focus of ESN Groningen is on all international and exchange students that are in Groningen. ESN offers help in academic, social and practical integration processes. This is mainly done through activities, including cultural and social events such as trips to various places within the Netherlands, language projects, international dinners, conferences and last but not least, parties. In addition to that, we have a mentor system, which helps international students mainly in academic and practical integration. For the social integration, there is a new project: the ESN Family program. The program will provide you with an enhanced understanding of different cultures present in Groningen.

ESN Groningen is a foundation, meaning we are a non-profit organization. ESN Groningen does not have members; everybody is more than welcome at our activities! For more information, please visit our website: www.esn-gron-ingen.nl or ‘like’ us on Facebook!

We are very proud to present to you the fourth edition of the International Student Short Film Festival, Flicks 2013. After three

successful years, the festival is a three days event filled with short films, an interesting side program and cinematic art. In October 2012, we started

off with a crew of six enthusiastic people. Out of more than 70 films, we’ve selected 26 films from 10 different countries. All these film show the

diversity of the different cultures around the world and the diversity of the student filmmakers who made them. From documentaries to animation

films, the Flicks festival has a varied selection of award winning films and first-time filmmakers.

The Flicks festival is a Groningen Student Film Festival in collaboration between Usva and ESN. The festival wants to provide film students and

aspiring filmmakers the opportunity to have their work shown to a diverse audience. Flicks wants to offer a diverse, entertaining and accessible

program for our international audience. The films are not subjected to genre, which means that every film block is a varied selection of themes

and genres.

A professional jury will decide which film wins the Flicks 2013 award! However, the jury is not the only one who can make the decisisions. Every

evening, we ask you to fill in your ballot to let us know the title of your favourite movie. This way, we grant the most popular film of the evening

with the Flicks audience award.

Sit back, relax and see that size really doesn’t matter!
