Spiroflow Flexible Screw Conveyors

With only one moving part, the free floating auger, this is easily the simplest form of conveyor on the market. The Spiroflow Flexible Screw Conveyor, also referred to as a flexible auger conveyor or spiral conveyor or helical conveyor or helix conveyor or flexi feeder or spiral feeder or screw feeder is comprised of a centerless, free-floating helical auger that rotates within the confines of a flexible tubular housing for dust-free transport of flowable bulk materials. There are no internal bearings to wear out and contaminate the product being conveyed. The auger is powered by an electric motor through a gear reducer, usually located at the discharge end of the system. Because this is a mechanical conveyor there is no need for dust filters or cyclone separators at the discharge.

The Spiroflow Flexible Screw Conveyor will move flowable powder and bulk solid materials at any angle from horizontal to vertical. The optimal angle at the product pick-up point is 45°. This factor combined with the flexibility of the casing and auger, allows this helical conveyor to be installed in many configuations and is well suited to retrofit or upgrade situations.

Typical Flexible Screw Conveyor Arrangements and Efficiencies

Page 3: Flexible Screw Conveyor

The original Spiroflow Conveyor features a high efficiency, flat face style auger made of spring grade steel or stainless steel that moves materials at a higher rate than comparable augers on the market. This design provides a flat pushing surface to efficiently propel materials. The edges are rounded to reduce friction and extend the service life of the conveyor casing. Augers are available in various sizes and cross sections, including round as well as a design with a beveled edge to handle materials that tend to smear or build up. Conveyor casings are usually made of UHMW polyethylene, a food grade material chosen for its outstanding chemical and abrasion resistance. Rigid steel casings are also available.

Typical Spiroflow Conveyor

The typical Spiroflow Conveyor is comprised of an inlet hopper, casing, auger and drive/discharge assembly. The construction is very simple and therefore inexpensive. Installation is easy. Hang or support the drive/discharge assembly where desired, position the inlet hopper, attach the casing and install the auger.

Fast and Simple to Clean

At the inlet end of the typical unit there is a clean-out cap that can be removed easily. With this cap removed, the auger rotational direction can be reversed to effectively remove most of the material from the conveyor, leaving only residual dust. Flush with air, water or cleaning solution to remove the residual. If more thorough cleaning is required the casing and auger can be removed easily.

Maintenance

The Spiroflow Conveyor is virtually maintenance free. Once the equipment is installed there is no need for adjustment. There is a gear reducer at the drive, filled with lubricant. The lubricant level requires checking from time to time. There is no other regular maintenance required.
