Monthly Meetings Monthly meetings allow the Club Officers, Chairpersons and active members to get together to discuss Club business, upcoming events, and anything else Por-sche related. Every member of the Club, family members and prospective mem-bers are welcome. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month at Terry Hills Golf Course in Batavia, and are more of a social event than they are a “meeting”. Arrive 6:30pm, meeting starts at 7:00pm and lasts anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. Afterwards we hang out, chat, check out cars, etc. When the weather is chilly we meeting in the club house, otherwise we meet in the outdoor pavilion surrounded by member’s Porsches. Terry Hills has some great menu selections for only $5 (the club picks up the remainder of the costs): beef on weck, open faced strip steak sandwich, salads, burgers, etc. Drinks are also included. This is a very low key event and is a great way to meet the people who make this club what it is!

Driver Education Program The mission and purpose of the Porsche Club of America’s Driver Education Program is to provide a safe, structured and controlled teaching and learning environment. The PCA DE Program is designed so that participants can improve their driving abilities and acquire a better understanding of vehicle dynamics and driving safety. Participants will experience first-hand the capabilities of high per-formance automobiles in a controlled, closed-course environment and acquire skills that will enhance safer vehicle operation in all driving situations. Niagara PCA currently hosts three DE events at Watkins Glen in May, June, and October. The specific dates and registration information can be found in this edition of Flatout. Rules & Regulations can be found on our website at www.niagarapca.org.

Autocross Autocross is an ideal way for drivers at any level of ability to learn the fundamen-tals of car control. It is an opportunity to drive your car more aggressively than what is practical on city streets or country roads. That’s not to say that reckless driving is encouraged; on the contrary, good autocross drivers are in complete control while driving their cars close to their handling limits. The real objective is to come away with a better understanding of the car’s capabilities as well as the driver’s. Most people that attend an autocross for the first time have never attempted any-thing like it. Many come back because it’s just so much fun. A few keep doing it year after year because it has become a part of their lives. One of the things that makes it attractive to newcomers is that any car that is in sound mechanical con-dition can be used. SUVs and vans are not permitted but beyond that, any car (Porsche or other marque) can participate. There are 6 autocross’s scheduled for 2010, check our club’s website for dates and times. Concours Basically a concours is a car show. A concours is a judged event where cars are prepared to “as delivered” condition. Points are deducted from a maximum possi-ble value based on condition and cleanliness. Cars are separated by model, year and level of competition. Competition levels may include, but are not limited to: 1. Full Concours – for those entries which are maintained at a high level. Con-cours entries will have the interior, exterior, storage compartment, engine com-partment, under carriage front and under carriage rear. 2. Street – intended for those entries which are used on an occasional basis. Street entries will receive the same evaluation as the Concours Division entries, with the exception of the under carriage front and under carriage rear 3. Wash-n-Shine – designed for entries which are driven on a regular basis. Only the interior, exterior and storage compartment will be judged.

There are also events known as “People’s Choice” where people attending the event, not official judges, choose the car they like the best. Check our club’s online Event Calendar for dates and times. Breakfast Runs A PCA Breakfast Run is a noncompetitive, legal speed, driving event. The body of the event is a brisk ride through the twists and turns of Western New York. The typical finale of the event ends at a restaurant where it turns from a driving event into a social event. A meeting site is designated by the host. There is a predefined course, however the exact path is usually not known by the attendees. This creates a Porsche follow the leader. Each person is re-sponsible for keeping track of the car behind them. If you notice the car you are responsible for is stuck at a light, has fallen far behind or is not visible you are expected to slow down or pull over to give them an opportunity to catch up with the group. These events usually start early in the morning (8-9AM) and finish early after-noon. Check the Event Calendar often for scheduled Breakfast Runs, they sometimes get added last-minute when the nice weather hits. It is the policy of Niagara Region PCA that club sanctioned events taking place on public roads are to be conducted in accordance with all safety and traffic laws, including but not limited to speed limits.

The Niagara PCA Board of Directors is proposing amend-

ments to the club’s ByLaws. These proposed amendments

are believed to be the first since the club was chartered in

1962. The purpose of this proposal is to clarify and simplify

ambiguous verbiage which will allow club leadership to oper-

ate more efficiently to better serve club members. Proposed

amendments are notated on the attached document as such:

deleted text contains a strike-through; added text is con-

tained within a box.

Club members have until May 15 to review the proposed

amendments and to submit statements of reason against the

adoption of any amendment to our club’s newsletter editor

Tom Lyons by email ([email protected]) or snail-

mail (25 Tyburn Way, Rochester, NY 14610).

The proposed amendments and a summary of any reasons

against adoption of amendments will be published in a hard

copy of the May, 2010 Flatout newsletter, which will be

mailed to all club members. A ballot will be included for

club members to vote on the proposed amendments.

Ballots must be signed, will include space for a family-

active member, and will include a return date of June 30,

2010 to be mailed to the club Secretary, Mike Cohn, 7 Round

Trail Dr., Pittsford, NY 14534. To be approved, the amend-

ments require a majority of the votes cast. Results shall be
