Most flamenco guitar albums feature only the fast numbers used in flamenco

dances, and many times, every number sounds like every other number. Not so

in this exceptional album of flamenco guitar. Every number is singularly different

from all the others, and the mood runs from finger-flying flamenco to. soothing

mood pieces, eloquent classical compositions, and romantic popular-type melodies.

All of the pieces are original compositions by the famed guitarist Laurindo Almeida,

and they are given superb renditions by Jose Barroso. Whether you listen in stereo

or monaural, you'll hear some of the most colorful and exciting guitar music

you've ever listened to!

THE COMPOSER

Laurindo Almeida came to America from Brazil. Ranked close to Segovia as a

classical guitarist, he has the rare talent of being able to bridge the gap between

classical, popular, and jazz guitar. In fact his first job here was with that daring

jazz giant, Stan Kenton! Not until this album has Almeida's composing genius

been brought into the spotlight where it belongs.

THE GUITARIST

Jose Barroso studied the cello in Mexico and has played with the Mexico City

Symphony Orchestra and the Seattle Symphony. He started on the guitar when

he was 39 years old! Coming to Los Angeles for studio work, Jose's haunting

guitar performance was featured in the throbbing score of "For Whom The Bell

Tolls." He beautifully executes Almeida's compositions, expressing the inner feel¬

ings of the composer with tremendous insight and amazing virtuosity.
