The Florida CARES Project

Florida CARES = Community Activity Results in Exceptional EmployeeS

A pilot project involving 515 employees (staff, teachers, administrators) of six high schools in Santa Rosa County, Florida

Chosen for their high rate of inactivity and their willingness to partner with USF/UF to reduce overweight and obesity

Program Objectives Reduce overall BMI by 5% in one year

Increase daily activity by 10% in one year

Increase consumption of fruits, veggies and whole grains to five or more daily

Increase annual physicals and screenings by 25% in one year

Keeping Track

Each employee will have a “Health Passport” in which they will record their activity for the day and their dietary intake of fruits, veggies and whole grains

Keeping Track Points will be given for healthy behaviors

Incentives for each level of 100 passport points will be given, including retail/grocery store cash cards
