Fixed Fee Retainer Servicefor Academies

Why a Stone King Fixed Fee Retainer?
Service A: Legal Support RetainerIn exchange for a termly fixed fee paid in advance you will receive:
� Support for your academy governance, including your company
secretarial function, and all necessary help with company and
charity law.
� Initial advice and assistance on all forms of legal advice needed, including:
� employment
� admissions
� education provision (including SEN, equality issues and pupil
behaviour) and all other pupil, pastoral and parent issues
� health and safety and school property
� relationships with commercial providers, contracts and procurement
� relations with local and national government
� No limit on the number of matters that you can ask us to help with.
� A 5% discount on our normal hourly rates if further assistance is needed
on more detailed matters which cannot be resolved within an hour
or two of initial work under the fixed fee service.
� We will respond immediately when possible and always within one
working day of receiving your query.
� You will receive a free concise legal briefing by email from our
specialists once a month with direct access to them to discuss
legal developments.
� 50% discount on our training seminars.
� A senior member of our team will act as your key contact with overall
responsibility for our relationship with you including:
� An initial visit to assess your particular requirements.
� Making sure you have direct contact with the various team
specialists that you need including a nominated education law
specialist and employment law specialist.
� Clarity as to what routine work can be done under the Retainer
and what will be involved if you require more extensive help. If at
any time it becomes apparent that it is not practical to resolve things
quickly, we will inform you immediately, discuss the fee implications
and secure your agreement before you incur any additional costs
on a discounted basis.

on a fixed fee basis which deliver:

help immediately and will respond to all requests
within one working day.

national government and our sole focus is to offer
committed, independent support for schools.
� A practical, concise approach that seeks to
resolve your issue within a few telephone calls
or emails.
� Clarity about the cost of ongoing, larger matters
and a discount on our usual rates.
� The benefit of our sector knowledge gained
daily from our work for over 400 state funded
schools and our network of connections in the
education sector. We are genuine legal specialists
in all aspects of school life.
� A service personal to you: an individual member
in our team will act as your key contact, ensuring
that you have access to exactly the right specialist
in our team.
� National quality delivered on a local basis:we
can travel to visit you as needed from our network
of offices at the same cost as any local law firm.
� Knowhow and training support including a
concise monthly email update.
� No small print: you can end the agreement on
one term’s notice.

Service B: Human Resources RetainerUnusually for a firm of solicitors we have a dedicated team of HR
Consultants within our Employment Team. The Human Resources
Retainer includes:
� An initial review of contracts of employment and employment
policies.
� Telephone and email HR advice for the Senior Leadership Team
and Governors.
� Advice regarding STPCD, Burgundy Book, Green Book and other
collective agreements.
� Advice on individual contractual terms.
� Advice on policies and procedures.
� Assistance with consultation on introduction of and change of
policies.
� Advice in managing the routine aspects of individual cases
(e.g. redundancy, disciplinary, capability, ill health and grievance).
� Advice with advertising new roles, interview process, references.
� Absence management.
� Exit interviews.
If an issue turns from HR to legal so that it is no longer
appropriate to deal with it under the HR service, we will discuss
that with you. It might then move to our Legal Support Retainer
(if also taken under Service C below), or to a separate matter.

Service C: Combined Legal SupportRetainer and HR Support Retainer These services can be purchased together at a discount.

Compensation InsuranceThis can be added to any of our service levels to ensure that the
School is covered against compensation costs as well as legal
costs.
� Depending on the policy terms that are entered into, cover can
be obtained for adverse Tribunal Awards or adverse Tribunal Awards
and legal costs relating to such proceedings.
� We receive no commission or payment from the insurer concerned.
� We work closely with the insurer who trusts us to deal with the
matter with you appropriately without undue interference.
� The premium in relation to this element of the service is
dependent upon staff numbers/payroll and claims history. If you
are interested in this service please let us know and we will obtain
the necessary information from you to provide you with a quote.

In all our fixed rate services:� We do not require you to enter into a long term commitment:
just let us know before the start of a School term if you do
not wish to continue with the Retainer service during that
term.
