Standing high in a hemlock treelast hunting season I had little to

do except think and wait. As timepassed I began looking at my equip-

ment. My state of the art bow, arrows, rest, release, stabilizer and quiver all

played a part in harvesting a deer laterthat season but it dawned on me the

most critical component of all was thebroadhead at the tip of my arrow.

Over 40 years ago I harvested myrst deer and several thereafter usingthe Bear Razorhead. is broadhead

was the industry standard for yearsuntil other manufacturers developed

heads that were even more lethal andaccurate. In subsequent seasons I took

deer using the Savora broadhead byArchers Ammo and then after their

introduction, switched to using NAPsvenerable underhead. I particular-ly liked the underhead because it

never failed and produced excellentblood trails. It literally zipped through

deer with lethal results. As the development of new archery

equipment snowballed, other manu-facturers brought out other styles of

hunting heads that were extremelysharp, ew straight and killed game

cleanly. Today, hunters have a choiceof many excellent broadheads and itseems more are developed every year.

With todays super fast bows somehunters abandoned standard xed-

blade broadheads and switched tousing their mechanical cousins. ese

hunters feel a xed blade head tendsto shoot less accurately out of a high

speed bow and requires a lot of pre-

cise bow tuning. On the other hand it

can be argued a mechanical broadheadcan fail to deploy especially if its shot

out of an older, slower bow and someshooters feel a mechanical broadhead

is simply not as durable as a xed bladehead.

To combat the bad rap on theinconsistent ight characteristics of a

xed blade broadhead at high speeds, manufacturers have made changes to

designs. One trend is for shorter ferrulesand blades and many now have bladesan inch or less in length. Although the

ferrules and blades are shorter, theypresent a large cutting diameter, usu-

ally an inch or more, making themdeadly, durable and accurate.

Today, there are dozens of xedblade models from which your cus-

tomers can choose but few have thetime, money or inclination to test morethan one or two of them. As a result,

we decided to contact a number ofmanufacturers to see which xed blade

heads have endured the test of timeand what new heads, if any, they will be

oering in 2012. By passing this infor-mation on to our readers, dealers can

keep abreast of the newest develop-ments in xed blade broadhead design

and by doing so they will be in a posi-tion to help their customers select ahead most suitable for their hunting

    needs.

    Clean-Shot ArcheryClean-Shot Archery was founded

in Renton, Washington by Larry Bay, anavid archer and a manufacturing engi-

neer with a strong background in prod-

uct and business development. econcept for Spot-On Laser broadheads

started several years ago when Larry's

peep sight lled with water during anextended push through wet brush on

a Pacic Northwest hunting trip. As aresult of that failed trip, Bay looked for

an alternative to conventional sight-ing systems and the concepts behind

Clean-Shot Archery were developed.Clean-Shot Archery claims to have

moved the archery industry into thetechnology age when it introduced the

revolutionary Spot-On Laser broad-heads at the 2011 ATA show. is hunt-ing head features an internal laser

beam integrated into a patented broad-head that automatically activates at

full draw using a simple bow mountedmagnet. is beam is then projected on

the target so that the shooter can seeprecisely where he is aiming.

Each Spot-On Laser broadheadoers a full 24 inches of elevationadjustment at 30 yards as well as a left

or right adjustment allowing the shoot-er to sight in each arrow out to 70

yards. is means parallax error, whichis inherent when using a peep sight,

is practically eliminated. Bay suggeststhis head is an excellent training tool

for novice archers that improves shotcondence and overall accuracy. ese

heads feature a Hollow Point Tip thatcuts on contact and removes a core oftissue he says creates a massive wound

channel and excellent blood trail.Clean-Shot Archery also oers

shooters the Spot-On Hollow Pointbroadhead, identical to the Spot-On

Laser broadhead except it doesnt havethe laser integrated into the head. e

company says the Hollow Point broad-

head provides excellent ight charac-teristics and accuracy making the tran-

sition between the Laser and HollowPoint broadheads seamless. All Spot-

On broadheads feature a patentedHollow Point Tip that cuts on contact

and removes a .25 caliber hole withevery shot. According to the company,

once this core sample is removed, theblade, with its 1-1/4 inch cutting diam-

eter, slices tissue with less friction mak-ing an unobstructed hole and leaving

a blood trail leading straight to thedowned game.

    The Spot-On Laser Broadhead automati-

cally activates an adjustable laser beam atfull draw.

Magnus Inc.Magnus broadheads have been a

trusted tool for archers for more than25 years. Today, Magnus oers morethan 50 dierent broadheads in ten dif-ferent styles with most being availablewith two or four blade options.

According to Magnus MarketingManager John Betker, the Snuer SSstainless steel broadhead has been re-engineered and is precision machinedfor perfect arrow ight. In addition,Betker said each head is then spintested to insure pinpoint accuracy.e Snuer SS features a strong, onepiece head and a cut on contact tipwhich, when combined with its lowblade angle, produces an e cient andeective three blade hunting head. eSnuer SS is available in 85, 100 and125 grain weights and comes in a packof three.

For those preferring a razor sharpstraight blade broadhead, the Stinger

is one of the most popular heads in theMagnus line. e Stinger is made ofknife grade stainless steel with a ferrule

crafted from aircraft quality aluminum.A patented diamond tip allows it topierce the thickest hide and providesbone splitting penetration.

e Magnus Stinger Buzzcut fea-tures twin chiseled serrated blades toproduce more eective cutting actiononce inside the body cavity of a gameanimal. Magnus says this cuttingaction produces more eective bloodtrails and a shorter tracking job for thehunter. Knife grade stainless steel givesthe Buzzcut its razor sharp edge whileprecision machining and spin test-ing promise perfect arrow ight. eStinger Buzzcut is available in either atwo or four blade conguration. Twoblade models are available in 100 and125 grain weights while the four bladeedition is available in 85, 100, 125 or150 grain weights.

Turkey hunting with a bow andarrow is becoming more popular everyyear and Magnus now oers the popu-lar Bullhead hunting head designedspecically for turkey hunting. isunique broadhead has a large cut-ting surface making it highly eectivewhen taking head and neck shots atthese big birds. e 100 grain threeblade Bullhead has a 2-3/4 inch cut-ting diameter and typically provideseither a clean ethical kill or clean miss.e Bullhead also comes in a 125 grainversion with a huge 3-3/4 inch cuttingdiameter. For 2012, Magnus isoering two new broadheads designedspecically for crossbows. e KillerBee and Killer Bee Buzzcut are solidblade broadheads that will eectivelywork when shot not just from a cross-bow but from any bow including tradi-tional bows or compounds.

e Stinger Killer Bee borrowsfrom the success of the original Stinger

and oers a non-vented knife-gradestainless steel main blade with a pat-ented diamond tip for bone-splitting

penetration. e ferrule is made fromaircraft quality aluminum and the headis spin-tested after construction forperfect alignment. e Stinger KillerBee is oered in two blade or fourblade, and 100 or 125 grain.

Like the Stinger Killer Bee, theStinger BuzzCut Killer Bee also incor-porates a non-vented stainless steelmain blade, but with a chiseled ser-ration, delivering a deadly sting forgreater blood trails and less time track-ing game.

Betker explained Magnus intro-duced this new line to the already suc-cessful Stinger and Stinger BuzzCutfamily because of the overwhelmingnational acceptance of crossbow hunt-ing. He explained the company feltit needed to engineer a broadheadthat could withstand the punishmentand the kinetic energy associated withcrossbows. e blades of the StingerKiller Bee and BuzzCut are solid andtough enough to endure bone-splittingpenetration at speeds upwards of 365fps and, like every other head Magnusoers, they are spin tested by hand toinsure perfect arrow ight. If thereare planing or tuning issues it wontbe the fault of our broadheads, Betkerassured us.

last year they came out with a 125grain version. Both models oer a onepiece, stainless steel ferrule with aHydroshock Self Centering Chisel tip. When we spoke to Fulton his enthusi-asm for the Ramcat was obvious. Fultonexplained both weights of the Ramcathead oers shooters superb accuracybecause of their design. He noted deeplobes in the tip create an airfoil thatdrafts wind over the blades and pre-vents wind planing. Once in the ani-mal, the lobes create a hydrofoil forcingbody mass outward and eliminatingfriction on the arrow shaft. Fulton saysthis design results in incredibly deeppenetration.

e replaceable blades on bothRamcat models are .032 of an inchthick for added strength and are sharp-ened front and rear to create a back cut.If the head does not pass completelythrough the animal it will cut its wayback out. Fulton said both the Ramcat100 and 125 grain heads oer shooterseld point accuracy while being deadlyquiet in ight.

For 2012 both Ramcat modelshave been redesigned slightly andboth now feature left hand screws toallow the blades to be tightened intothe loaded position more easily. eAllen sockets on the blade screws havebeen increased from the original .050to 1/16 inch for easy tightening andto reduce the chance of rounding outthe screw. To accommodate all inserts, the shank of the Ramcat is now 1-1/2

threads longer and an o-ring has beenadded to the shank to allow the headto be indexed on the arrow to clear theshelf and the riser. A new blade sharp-ening process makes this head evenmore lethal and new practice bladesare available for both the 100 and 125grain models. Quality Archery DesignsQuality Archery Designs (QAD),

known for high quality drop awayarrow rests entered the broadheadmarket last year when it introducedthe Exodus, a xed blade broadheadwith a tempered steel head and stur-dy, razor sharp .035 of an inch thickblades. QAD Marketing Director, KevinFry told ArrowTradesince its introduc-tion, sales of the new broadhead haveexceeded expectations. e broad-head market is tough and there are a

lot of good heads out there but dealershave shown a great deal of interestbecause of the quality of our rests andother accessories. Because of the goodrelationship we have with our dealers, they have the condence to try ourproducts and as a result, the Exodushas been very well accepted by theircustomers as well, Fry stated.

QAD said shooters can expectthe new Exodus to provide eld pointaccuracy, remarkable penetration anda large cutting diameter. According toFry, this new xed blade broadhead

The Exodus by Quality Archery Designsfeatures a super short ferrule with bladesswept back over the arrow shaft giving itthe same overall length as a eld point.

It is available in a non barbed or, wherelegal, a barbed design.

Grim Reaper now oers the Mathews lineof broadheads which includes the Hadesxed blade hunting head with Airfoil tech-nology. This head is similar to the stan-dard Hades model but has a gold coloredferrule and Mathews packaging.

Fulton Precision Archery has modied itspopular Ramcat broadhead so the bladescan be tightened more easily. The bladesof the Ramcat are sharpened front andrear and will create a back cut if the headdoes not pass completely through theanimal. The 100 grain head has a 1-3/8

inch cutting diameter while the 125 grainmodel cuts a huge 1-1/2 inch hole.

    InnerlocBecause carbon arrow shafts can-

not be heated they can be di cult totune when a broadhead is attached. To combat this problem, Innerloc hasdeveloped what the company callsBlade Alignment Technology (BAT)to simplify tuning hunting shafts. istechnology simplies broadhead tun-ing problems because the broadheaditself is adjustable. According to ConnieSullivan, Innerloc operations manager, the blades on Innerloc broadheads canbe easily adjusted the same way forevery shot and from arrow to arrow.is results in smaller groups whenshooting broadheads.

All Innerloc broadheads are verysharp and feature what the companyrefers to as Endur-Edge. A specialmanufacturing and tempering pro-cess performed on the highest qual-ity stainless steel material producesan ultra durable blade edge that stayssharp while passing through the tar-get. Sullivan claimed the Endur-Edgeblades stay clean after passing throughhair and hide and cause immenseblood trails and quick kills.

e Falcon and Carbon Tuner arethe latest additions to the Innerloc line.Sullivan said the Falcon is fast, erceand fatal and features a rear loadingblade locking design called the CLS IIthat makes it the ultimate in a com-pact broadhead. e cut on contact tipand .027 inch thick blades provide a 1inch cutting diameter and it has BladeAlignment Technology.

e Carbon Tuner has all the fea-tures of earlier Innerloc broadheadswith the addition of Blade AlignmentTechnology. With BAT, hunters caneasily tune their carbon arrows to shootmore accurately than they were ableto before. e Carbon Tuner featuresa .027 of an inch blade thickness andhas a 1-1/16 inch cutting diameter.Custom blood trail anodizing on theferrule dresses up the head and gives ita special look. e three blade CarbonTuners come in 75, 100 and 125 grainweights. A 100 grain Pink Carbon Tuneris also available and a portion of protsfrom the sale of this broadhead go tothe Pink Arrow Project which channelsfunds to support women who are bat-tling cancer.

e Innerloc Stainless Extreme 100and 125 grain broadheads feature a 100percent stainless tip, blades and ferruleto provide superior penetration. eseheads are small, fast, accurate, anddeadly. e aluminum ferrule has beenreplaced with heavier stainless steelso it carries more energy in a smallerpackage. Contact Sullivan Industriesfor more information on Innerlocbroadheads by calling (706) 782-5863.

Rockets Ultimate Steel xed blade broad-head is more than a match for the largestgame including, moose, bear and manylarge African game animals. The UltimateSteel comes in 75, 100 or 125 grainweights and features a perforated bladedesign to reduce drag and wind planning

while providing exceptional accuracy evenwhen shot at high speed.

Sullivan Industries has added the Falconas its latest broadhead oering. This headhas an ultra compact design and featuresBlade Alignment Technology (BAT) thatsolves the problems associated with tun-ing broadheads to carbon arrows. The cen-ter locking system matches bevels at thefront of the ferrule with those on the insideedge of the tip to create a clamping actionwhen the tip is tightened. This forces thetip, blades and ferrule so tightly together

they perform as a single unit. They areavailable in 65, 85, and 100 grain weights.

The Innerloc Pink, 100 grain CarbonTuner is a three blade broadhead and partof the Pink Arrow Project with a portionof the proceeds from its sale donated toghting breast cancer. The Pink Carbon

New Archery Products (NAP)When Andy Simo, an aeronauti-

cal engineer by training, decided toopen his own archery manufacturingbusiness in 1971 he set out to designand manufacture archery products thatwere completely new to the archeryindustry and not to just tweak whatwas already available. Today, NAPoers many innovative archery prod-ucts upon which shooters have cometo rely including a wide range of xedblade hunting heads that account foran untold number of game animalstaken by hunters.

e underhead is the companysbest selling broadhead and recognizedas one of the nest xed blade broad-heads ever created. e underheadcontinues to sell well because produc-tion costs are kept low and the compa-ny is able to hold the line on price mak-ing the underheads appealing formany hunters. Most other broadheadson the market come three to a pack-age and sell for $30. underheadssell for the same price but come sixto the package making hunters real-ize they are getting a high quality

broadhead at an aordable price. eunderheads Micro Grooved Slimlineferrule greatly increases ight accuracyand penetration power while a spe-cial Diamize sharpening process cre-ates one of the sharpest blades in theindustry. Hunters shooting bows withlight or heavy draw weights have achoice of hunting heads because theunderhead comes in weights of 85,100 and 125 grains. e 85 grain modelhas a 1-1/8 inch cutting diameter whilethe 100 and 125 grain models have acutting diameter of 1-3/16 inches.

Its difficult to imagine howNAP could have improved on theunderhead but they seem to havepulled it o in oering the underheadXP with its Micro Grooved Slimline fer-rule which increases ight accuracyand penetration. e most signicantfeature of this broadhead is the new cuton contact point that increases pen-etration even from high angle shots.e underhead XP comes in either a100 grain model with a 1-1/8 inch cut-ting diameter or a 125 grain model witha 1-3/16 inch cutting diameter.

e underhead Edge has all thefeatures of the original underheadbut oers an exclusive straight/serratedblade technology that NAPs Directorof Engineering Bob Mizek says is dev-astating on hide and esh. Becauseof the blade design, this head passesthrough bone like a hot knife throughbutter, Mizek told us. He noted the o-set blades of this broadhead produce

For those shooters preferring a huntinghead with a partially serrated blade, NAPsThunderhead Edge may be the one theyare looking for. The Edge, like this compa-

nys other hunting heads, has been exten-sively eld tested for proven reliability.

form well when shot from even the fastestsetups.

100 grain Edge with its 1-1/8 inch cut-ting diameter comes fully assembled

underhead Razor, which like theEdge, comes ready to shoot with blades

locked in place. e Razor features thesame Trophy Tip point and oset blade

alignment as the Edge but has straight-edge rather than serrated blades. eRazor comes in a 100 grain weight and

has a 1-1/8 inch cutting diameter.NAPs HellRazor is known for com-

bining extreme sharpness and dura-bility with excellent penetration and

is another good seller because it canbe resharpened. is makes it an

extremely popular head with hunterswho want to save money and who likespending time working on their equip-

ment. Today, many hunters want highperformance at an aordable price and

they get it with the HellRazor, Mizeknoted. e HellRazor gives them scal-

pel sharp blades and costs up to 50 per-cent less than many other broadheads,

he added.Mizek went on to say the HellRazor

oers shooters an ultra strong onepiece design with no loose bladesever. e HellRazor is CAD designed

and oers all stainless steel construc-tion for maximum strength and opti-

mum ight characteristics while aPhoton blade bonding process laser

    welds the HellRazor to produce

exceptional strength and consistency,he explained. Hunters will appreciate

how the non-replaceable blades can beresharpened multiple times by using

any good at, ne grit 1-1/2 by 4 inchsharpening stone. It should be notedNAP oers a dedicated practice head

sold in three packs to ne tune yourcustomer's setup. e HellRazor comes

in a 100 and 125 grain model and bothfeature a 1-1/8 inch cutting diameter.

For 2012, NAP in collaborationwith Easton Technical Products, has

developed an internal t componentsystem that enables the use of the ultra

small diameter X and G series Eastonshafts. ese small diameter shaftsare paired with two new NAP xed

blade broadheads, the Deep Six BigNasty and Deep Six Razor. ese new

broadheads have a boat-tail taper thatmatches the shaft diameter of Eastons

new shafts resulting in less friction anddeeper penetration because the small

shafts follow behind the broadheadferrule. e new shaft and broadheadcombination provides hunters with a

shaft and broadhead system that alignsthe broadhead with the shaft more pre-

cisely than was previously possible.According to Mizek, Deep Six is

the new standard in high performancefor the modern day bowhunter. Until

the development of Deep Six technol-ogy, conventional arrow insert systems

were too large to allow hunting withmicro diameter shafts, like those usedby world-class target competitors.

Micro diameter arrows provide morekinetic and focused energy downrange

and are less prone to wind plane dur-ing extreme crosswinds. Now, this

same performance level is availablein arrows designed specically for

hunting, Mizek told us.To compliment Eastons new tech-

nology, NAPs D6 Big Nasty is a cut-on-contact all stainless steel three blade,

100 grain broadhead with a big 1-1/8of an inch cutting diameter. e over-the-shaft broadhead technology prom-

ises the hunter extreme penetrationon game and increased ight charac-

teristics. Mizek said the new D6 BigNasty design increases the strength

of the broadhead as it actually uti-lizes the Injexion arrow shaft as the

ferrule. is gives the D6 Big Nastyan extreme broadhead to arrow align-

ment, increasing speed and accuracy. Both new broadheads use a pro-

prietary new thread design that works

in concert with the insert on EastonsX and G series micro-diameter shafts.

Conventional points tend to rattleloose and the new Deep Six shaft and

broadhead combination provides 25percent more thread engagement to

keep the point secure inside the insert. In addition, the stainless steel mate-rial used in the new insert is 65 percent

    stronger than conventional aluminumcomponents.

e rst thing shooters will noticeis how the new Deep Six xed blade

broadheads taper to match the shaftdiameter resulting in less friction and

drag during ight. e new micro diam-eter shafts track behind the broadhead

ferrules with less friction and morepass through shots.

    NAPs second new broadhead

oering for 2012 is the D6 underheadRazor, a broadhead also engineered

and designed for Easton Injexion, Axisand Full Metal Jacket arrow shafts. is

Slick TrickAccording to company owner Gary

Cooper, Slick Trick broadheads oershooters strength, reliability, deadlypenetration and incredible accuracy.Cooper told ArrowTrade that accura-cy is the number one requirement forany broadhead and if a head wasntaccurate, nothing else really mattered.Because there are inherent accuracyproblems associated with broadheadswith long ferrules, Cooper designed hisbroadheads with a short ferrule rea-soning the shorter ferrule would haveless of a run out than a longer one andthus, be straighter once on the shaft.

In addition, Cooper felt a broad-head, with shorter blades, would sig-nicantly reduce the overall surfacearea of the hunting head and by com-bining these two innovations he could

produce a broadhead inherently moreaccurate and more forgiving than manyothers. Cooper explained a broadheadwith a short ferrule has a tendencyto plough through bone because it isstier and stronger, and presents lesssurface friction that slows penetrationin dense material.

e Standard Slick Trick broad-head has a Super Steel ferrule andcomes in 85, 100 or 125 grain weight.e Standard has a four-edge bonesplitting tip and two, 1 inch blades thatprovide a total blade cut of 2 inches.Cooper said this head is a terric allaround performer and outperformsthree blade heads with a 1-1/8 inchcutting diameter.

e Slick Trick Magnum has a1-1/8 inch cutting diameter giving it atotal 2-1/4 inch cut. Cooper said thiswas the rst super short broadheadoered in 2000 and that it ies as wellas a mechanical broadhead. Coopernoted many bowhunters were amazedat the size of the holes the Magnumcreated on game animals and coinedthe term slug holes after seeing howlarge they were. e stainless steel LutzMercedes blades of the Magnum areGerman made and are .035 of an inchthick. It comes in a three pack and isavailable in a 100 or 125 grain weight.

e four blade Razortrick is pat-terned after an old Indian arrowheadand is an outstanding low energy hunt-ing head. It is considered a great hogpenetrator because its thick, .040 inchGerman made Lutz Mercedes bladesand strong, super steel ferrule allow itto easily cut through tough hide and

esh. e Razortrick has a 2 inch totalblade cut and is available in either a100 or 125 grain weight.

Slick Trick took the originalGrizztrick broadhead, redesigned it,and came out with the Grizztrick 2 in2011. Cooper said the new Grizztrick2 is a big, mean broadhead thatcuts a larger hole than a three blademechanical broadhead. e Grizz2 has exceptional xed strength anddelivers excellent penetration. With its1-1/4 inch cut, this head puts hugeholes through animals and producesgreat blood trails, he told us.

e ferrule of the Grizztrick 2 hasbeen streamlined to make it y wellfrom any bow setup while deliveringeld point accuracy. Like the otherbroadheads in the Slick Trick line, theGrizztrick 2 has .035 of an inch thickstainless steel German made LutzMercedes blades and is oered in 100and 125 grain weights. With a longer, slimmer nose, the Grizztrick 2 is moreforgiving of arrow shafts with less thanideal spine or when shot out of speedbows.

With a 1-1/4 inch cutting diameter, the four blade Grizztrick 2 actually cutsmore esh than a 1-1/2 inch diameterthree blade mechanical. It should benoted the company will be advertisingit as having the ight characteristicsand cutting diameter of a three blademechanical broadhead, but with thesuperior strength, penetration, andreliability of a xed head.

e XBow Trick is a 100 percentsteel broadhead designed specicallyfor crossbow use. Last year it was onlyoered in a 175 grain weight but for2012, it will be available as a 150 grainhead as well. e XBow 150 grain hasthe same high quality German stainless

The Slick Trick Razor Trick is a three bladecut on contact broadhead that oersshooters a 1-1/8 x 7/8 inch cut. The thick.040 inch main and bleeder blades arecrafted from Lutz Solingen super sharpsteel. This head is very popular among

hog hunters because of the way it slicesthrough thick hide.

With a completely new ferrule and blades, the Grizztrick 2 has been redesigned todeliver eld point ight and great strengthwhen shot out of even the fastest bows. The tip is longer and more slender to bemore forgiving when shot from lesser

tuned bows, and the blade geometry isstronger.

steel Lutz Mercedes blades as the com-panys other hunting heads but uses adierent, lighter ferrule. e XBow hasa total cutting diameter of 2-1/4 inchesand comes in a three pack.

is year, Slick Trick has intro-duced the new Viper Trick which oersshooters main and bleeder blades cou-pled with a cut on contact tip. e mainblade slides into the edge of the fer-rule tip while the bleeder blade ts inbehind it making this design as strongas or stronger than many xed bladeheads currently on the market. eblade edges of the Viper are honedto a 20 degree bevel to provide excel-lent strength and sharpness. Both use super sharp Lutzblades and are spin tested for accuracy. Both heads oer the Anix Blade LockingSystem that provides 45 degrees oflocking power on each blade. G5 saysthis ensures the broadhead stays intact

no matter what it hits. Both the Strikerand Striker Magnum are made of steeland blade replacement kits are avail-able.

G5 introduced the Montec CS in2011 and it has quickly become a favor-ite with many hunters. e MontecCS is manufactured from carbon steelusing G5s patented metal injectionmolding process and is then 100 per-cent spin tested to ensure accuracy. enew Montec CS is 25 percent sharperthan its original stainless steel design.Hunters like it because the blades caneasily be re-sharpened after repeateduse.

e Montec oers shooters a fool-proof design combining one piece, allsteel construction and diamond cutsharpness. It is available in 85, 100 and125 grain weights and is spin testedfor accuracy. Like the Montec CS, theMontec oers a cut on contact designand has no components to assembleor replace.

    SummaryWhen I started bowhunting back

in the late 1950s, as far as I knew theonly broadhead available was the BearRazorhead. Buy an arrow and it camewith a glued on Razorhead. Who knew?Today the number of broadheads onthe market has increased dramatical-ly and dozens of dierent broadheadstyles are now available for every meth-od of hunting whether with a long bow, compound or cross bow.

If complexity is the enemy of reli-ability that explains why many huntersprefer using a quality xed blade hunt-ing head. Unlike a mechanical broad-head, a xed-blade broadhead doesn'thave to use part of the arrow's energyin the act of opening the blades, whichin my mind ensures a better chance of

a complete pass though.e broadhead at the end of the

arrow is what brings game home andit must be sharp, create a big hole, penetrate deeply and above all y true.Fortunately there is no shortage ofbroadheads that do just that. Modernxed blade broadheads are crafted withthe utmost precision using the nestmaterial available for the purpose sothey are somewhat costly. However inaddition to ying well and being ultrasharp, they are tough and reusable.

Many dealers nd most of theircustomers are loyal to one type ofbroadhead and dont want to change. But you can still oer a variety of headsand suggest that customers may wantto share broadhead sampling expenseswith a friend so they can then bet-ter determine which head is best forthem. Each style of broadhead has itspros and cons and there is nothingwrong with a dealer helping a customerdecide what type of broadhead worksbest with their particular set up.

Before deciding which broadheadsto carry dealers can consider quality, durability and ight characteristics ofthe hunting head as well as its lethal-ity on game and the kind of marginsthey generate. ey must also considerthe demand for certain heads by theircustomers and the amount of advertis-ing support they can expect from themanufacturer. Hunters may not alwayslisten to a dealers advice but they canbe given the information they need tomake their next broadhead purchasean informed one. Over 25 million hits per month.
