Fourth Sunday of Lent / Cuarto Domingo de Cuaresma 2
Sacred Heart Five-Year Pastoral Plan
Everything Jesus did was eternally planned ahead of time. “For God has made known to us”, says St. Paul, “in all wisdom and insight the mystery of his will, according to his purpose which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fulness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth” (Eph 1:9-10). Several times Jesus said things like, “I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me” or “My time has not yet come” (Jn 6:38; Jn 7:6,8). In other words, everything must be done at the proper time according to God’s plan. Also when Jesus started his public ministry, one of the first things he did was to proclaim his mission statement (see Lk 4:16-21). A clear mission, vision, and plan are absolutely important for us individually, but is also important for every organization. These prerequisites are necessary for healthy growth. To operate without these tools is like groping blindly in the darkness, or to be adrift at sea without a navigator. There will be no motivation to strive harder because there is no goal or destination. It becomes a maintenance or survival game rather than a growing fruitful operation. The book of Proverbs says it best, “Where there is no vision, the people perish…” (Prov 29:18). The Sacred Heart Pastoral Council takes this seriously. As soon as the committee was formed in 2017, the body immediately undertook an evaluation of the parish to determine where it was at, and what needed to be done to move it forward. For the better part of 2017 they worked hard to review and revise the mission statement of the parish, create a five-year vision, and come up with strategies to set clear and tenable goals. In other words, the Council created a Five Year Pastoral Plan. Although the Council has not had the opportunity to present the Pastoral Plan to the whole parish, it was presented to the Sacred Heart Leaders’ Forum, which consists of all the ministry and group leaders of the parish. The Pastoral Plan was well received by the leaders who pledged their support. It is also important to note that the Council has been busy implementing parts of the plan. Today, the Pastoral Council officially launches the Pastoral Plan in the parish. The goal is to keep you informed and get you involved. As members of the mystical body of Christ, we belong together and are called to work together for the Kingdom of God. As Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Mt 9:37-38). Sacred Heart needs more laborers to achieve its’ Five-Year Vision. You are the Lord’s laborer. So please, join us!

MINISTERIO JUVENIL YOUTH MINISTRY
I can’t believe how quickly this Lenten season has gone by! So much has happened and so much more is to come that it all just feels like a blur to me. Usually this time of lent is when people start getting a little frustrated with their Lenten sacrifice and even begin to justify ways to break their sacrifice. I know that usually with our teens by this point a lot of them have given up or broken their promise and decided that since they failed, they were done. Our culture today seems to give up and give in so quickly to things that sometimes it can be pretty scary. At this point in lent I talk with our teens about powering through to the end of lent. Just because you broke your lent promise doesn't mean you can’t try again and finish out strong. Just because its hard doesn’t mean that we quit, it means we push harder! In football we use the term 4th Quarter to talk about digging in deep and giving it your all even when the gas tank is on empty. We are in the home stretch of lent and now is not the time to give up, its the time to dig a little deeper and power through to the end. If Christ could sacrifice all he did for us, why can’t we follow through with our little sacrifices until the end of lent?

The Bethlehem Christian Families are here today on the east side of the church to sell their hand carved religious articles made of olive wood. The sale of these precious religious articles supports their church mission which is to maintain the roots and the existence of the Christian Families struggling to remain in Bethlehem. At least ninety percent of the funds raised go directly to Christians living in the Bethlehem area. The proceeds will create more work which will help them to survive and stay in the Holy Land since they have no other source of income and are dependent on the olive wood industry. "Thank you for your support and generosity."
