Transcript of Five Tips on How to Avoid Online Fraud
Online FraudFive Tips to Avoid it
Online shopping activities continues to increase year-to-year.
Not all online transactions are safe.
Fraud such as un-received goods, illicit payments via credit cards to the loss of an exorbitant amount of money.
We need to protect ourselves from cyberhackers and scammers.
Continue on to find tips on how to do so.
Use Safe Shopping Sites• Shop on sites with the address
‘https://’ instead of ‘http://’.• The letter ‘s’ signifies that the
site is using a secured server that will protect your personal information.• You can also look for reviews
from previous customers or ask someone you know who has online shopping experience to ensure if your destination site is a trusted website.

Save Any Evidence of Transaction• Proof of electronic payments such as confirmation e-
mails, SMS and others can help to record and track the history of your transaction.• Can also be used as strong evidence if there is a dispute
with the seller in the future.
Protect Your Credit Card• Even after transaction has taken place, it is possible to prevent
and stop hackers from using your credit card. Here’s how:
Set up SMS notifications to receive any transaction updates. If anything seems fishy, contact your bank’s customer service to confirm your suspicions and to block the transaction from getting approved.
Use a One-Time Password, which is sent your personal mobile phone after each transaction. It adds a layer of security.
Limit your credit card threshold. Transactions surpassing your set limit will not be processed.
Check your credit card statements. If you find a transaction you had no knowledge of, contact your customer service immediately.
Avoid Using Wi-Fi When Accessing Personal Accounts
• Avoid using public/ free Wi-Fi as it may open up opportunities for other people to access your private data.
Use Smart and Powerful Passwords• Hackers generally guess and match your personal
records word by word and letter by letter so avoid generic passwords like your birthday.• Make sure you use numbers, symbols, uppercase and
lowercase letters.
