The Five Parts of a Personal Letter The 1 st  part is called the heading. It includes the writer’s complete address and the date that the letter was written. If your letter is full-bl ock style (all flush against the left margi n) then the heading and all other parts of the l etter are flush left. In this sty le the paragraphs are not indented. This is how we wil l write our letters in class. Just so you know, many people write their letters semi -block style, which means that the heading and closing are tabbed to the middle of the paper and paragraphs are indented. The nd  part of a personal letter is called the salutation . The salutation is the opening greeting in any letter. In most personal let ters we start the salutation with !ear (whate"er the person#s name is) .” The 3 rd   part of a personal letter is called the body. The body is the $letter% part of the lett er . It includes all of the writer’s thoughts organized into paragraphs . The 4 th   part of a personal letter is called the closing. The closing includes the closing greeting followed by empty spaces or lines and then the writer’s typed or printed first and last name . In the closing greeting only the first word is capitali&ed. 'ome eamples of good closing greetings are as foll ows *ours truly+ 'incerely+ riends fore"er+ and o"e. The 5 th   part of a personal letter is called the signature . The signature is signed in the space between the two parts of the closing . The signature should be written in cursi"e and neat. It was huge . <y mom and dad had their bedroom with a n enormous bed. <e and ?ick shared a  bedroom that ha d a bunk-bed, a dr esser and a mir rored closet. ittle ndr@ slept on the sofa-be d. The room had a huge porthole window and a ledge where you could sit and l ook out o"er the ocean. The bathroom had a shower and a toilet tha t made a sound like it could suck y ou down and spit you out into the sea. =ell, I don#t want to te ll you e"erything.
