Michael Anthony (bass, vocals; born June 20, 1954), Sammy Hagar (vocals; born October 13, 1947), David Lee Roth (vocals; born October 10, 1955), Alex Van Halen (drums; born May 8, 1953), Eddie Van Halen (guitar, synthesizer; January 26, 1955)

It was a tumultuous ride that few expected would last, but the vanhalenVan Halen sorta-reunion tour came to a close June 2nd in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In the end, the tour grossed $93 million and played to nearly a million fans over the course of 74 shows. In retrospect, it wasn’t the ego or antics of David Lee Roth but Eddie Van Halen’s pre-jaunt rehab stay and March health issues that nearly submarined the tour. The shows marked the first time that Roth fronted the band in 23 years (though without bass player Michael Anthony, the original lineup remains estranged since 1985), and VH’s handlers say it was the most successful tour of the long-running group’s career.

Legendary rock guitar icon Eddie Van Halen, and partner FEA Merchandising are proud to announce the release of EVH Brand Signature Striped Sneakers.

For nearly 2 decades, EVH fans have been attending Van Halen shows wearing homemade versions of the striped sneakers that Eddie wears onstage, modeled after his infamous red white and black striped Frankenstein guitar.

“So many people would ask me, where can I get a pair of those? After hearing that for about 15 years, I figured they were something that people obviously wanted, so making them available and official seemed like a natural progression,” Eddie said.

Rock n’ Roll The Led Zeppelin tune "Stairway to Heaven" is one of rock music's most famous songs, and the band itself ranks just below The Beatles and The Rolling Stones in rock 'n' roll fame. The band included singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones (b. John Baldwin on 3 January 1946) and drummer John "Bonzo" Bonham (b. 31 May 1948). Led Zeppelin was formed in 1968 and the next year released a self-titled album of heavy, blues-based rock. It went to #1 on the music charts. The immediate follow-up album, Led Zeppelin II, included the hits "Ramble On" and "Whole Lotta Love" and also went to the top of the charts. By 1971, when "Stairway to Heaven" came out on the group's mysteriously-untitled fourth album (known as "Zoso"), Led Zeppelin had become a supergroup known for churning guitars and mystical lyrics and for Plant's screaming vocals. The band toured the world throughout the 1970s, becoming in many ways the prototypical hard-partying arena-rock band. Bonham, a notorious wild man, died on 24 September 1980, choking on his own vomit after a drinking binge. The group disbanded shortly thereafter, though Page, Plant and Jones continued to perform separately and in combination.

The group finally split up in 1980 following the alcohol-induced death of Bonham, a blow that hit Plant particularly hard.

The day has finally arrived: Barring any last-minute broken fingers, Led Zeppelin is set to take the stage tonight at roughly 9pm GMT for the Ahmet Ertegun tribute show at London’s O2 Arena. Fans started lining up yesterday at the venue to pick up the wristbands; if you’re not one of the lucky 20,000 attending, tonight’s concert will reportedly be filmed for a future DVD release. In the meantime, check out all our Zeppelin features, including an excerpt from their Rolling Stone cover story and their album-by-album guide. And click back tomorrow for a full concert report from Rolling Stone’s David Fricke.

Tip of the hat to co-worker Nick P., who stumbled upon the following correction in the Washington Post. The Public Enemy song to which it refers, "911 Is a Joke," comes from the group's seminal 1990 album, Fear of a Black Planet. In other words, the song existed a full eleven years before 9/11. Even worse, the story to which this correction refers is about how the group visited Washington, D.C.'s Sasha Bruce House, which is "a haven for homeless and displaced youth in Southeast Washington" and is involved in advocacy and support for the homeless. The sentence in question that was corrected? "Public Enemy has earned notoriety with more than 20 years of politically charged music about fighting the power, challenging racism and declaring that 911 was a joke." Ouch.

MC Hammer Widely acknowledged as one of the first musical acts, alongside Kurtis Blow, Run-D.M.C., and others, to push rap and hip-hop into the American mainstream, MC Hammer (born Stanley Kirk Burrell in Oakland, CA, on March 30, 1962) enjoyed a seemingly limitless and unstoppable tide of success in the early '90s, with the issue of his multi-platinum albums Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em (1990) and Too Legit to Quit (1991).

I'll probably never experience what it's like to face up to the media at a press conference. I certainly hope I never find myself sitting in front of 30 microphones, John Campbell and Mark Sainsbury and the rest of a media scrum scrutinising my every move as I stutter through a pre-written statement denying all involvement in an incident involving a power drill, several pallets of Coca Cola and 100 missing gophers. And I doubt I'll ever be famous enough to use my name to promote a high-profile brand like Nike or Playstation and tour the world on their behalf. But rest assured, if Muffin Break comes calling, I'll answer that call. As long as there are free muffins on offer, I'm there.
