We continue to advertise our world class website on the famous British property website ‘Rightmove’, the Cyprus Mail,

Essential Paphos magazine and the Russian magazine ‘My Island’ (Moi Ostrov) attracting sellers as well as buyers.

We are seeing consolidation of prices at current realistic levels. As more people wake up to the fact that this is a wonderful opportunity to buy villas, prices will increase however prices for apartments will continue to be soft because there is a big oversupply of these types of properties.

Fitzgerald's Celebrate 9th YearDaryl and Anna Fitzgerald, celebrated their 9th year of their Fitzgerald Estates Property Marketing Company. On the 15th of March staff and clients joined in a proud celebration of the past achievements and looking forward to new challenges and successes that lie ahead.

On the same evening, following the long standing Irish tradition, the festivities continued at the St. Patrick's Day function organised by Fáilte Pafos. The event, sponsored by Fitzgerald Estates was held at the Kamares Club, Tala to raise money for St Michael's Hospice and the Cancer Patients Support Group.

The guest of honour was H.E. the Irish Ambassador, Partick Scullion. He and lots of Irish people and their friends from many countries had a great time and raised a good amount for both causes. Needless to say everyone was Irish for the evening and the gathering reminded us that Fitzgerald Estates clientele is many and varied too and like the Irish, Fitzgerald Estates have had many adversaries but have come out on top with hard work and service.

Clients say that the website really is the best property website they have seen and they read all about the properties, monthly newsletters and the newsy bits of what is happening around us. The Fitzgerald family, even though their children are presently in Shanghai, Melbourne and London, still consider themselves part of the company and provide lots of feedback and on-going support, not to mentioned the regular ‘assessments’ (welcomed or unwelcomed).

As the business environment has become more streamlined, it also seems to have shifted more to an impersonal level. At Fitzgerald’s we aim to maintaining the personal touch as we firmly believe that for all the advancement of business practices more and more people want to know who they are dealing with and buying from. This is especially true when it comes to buying property and making one of the largest investment decisions they are likely to make. We support the clients getting to know us and Fitzgerald's world-class website is a perfect introduction to the Fitzgerald Team clients will inevitably meet as well as the

Flower Festival In Cyprus Continues An Ancient TraditionEach May Cyprus holds the Anthestiria Flower Festival - a celebration of life, plants and flowers.

This festival is an ancient celebration of Spring and nature's rebirth. The event dates back to Greek times, when feasts were held in Athens every four years to honour the god of wine and theater, Dionysus.

The festival is held on the weekends in the first half of May in all major cities of Cyprus, which gives all the tourists an opportunity to get to learn the ancient heritage of the country.

Festive program is slightly different in each town in Cyprus, e.i. in Larnaka and Paphos they will hold flower parades while in Limassol they will present a Flower Fair-Exhibition.

Cyprus property market.

Because Fitzgerald's has concentrated on taking on quality property at realistic prices with Title Deeds or very close to it they have expanded considerably in the last 3-4 years. The next step in this expansion is to develop their market into Limassol and Larnaca with an eye to establishing the Fitzgerald banner in London next year.

Currently Fitzgerald Estates are looking for keen, mature, educated people in Cyprus who speak and write fluent English and Russian and speak Greek. So if you or anyone you know would like to be part of an enterprising family business that always wants to improve please email us on [email protected] with a CV and photograph.

Water, Water, Everywhere! The island's largest dam, Kouris, is expected to overflow for the second time in its history according to officials at the Water Development Department.

Apparently the last time it overflowed was in 2004 and is currently 99 per cent full after the long wet winter. The fact that the weather has begun to warm up means that the melting snow will provide a steady flow of water into the island’s reservoirs and the Kouris reservoir’s stocks are also being bolstered with water that is transferred from Arminou dam.

The dam which is in in the Limassol area, whose construction was finished in 1988 has a storage capacity of 115 million cubic metres. Around 31.5 million cubic metres had been transferred in total from Arminou to Kouris this winter.

Following the winter of heavy rainfall, reservoirs island wide began one by one to overflow over the last two months with a total of 12 having overflowed by the beginning of March. Dam storage has reached 95 per cent, compared to 60 per cent for this time last year. In fact so heavy has the rainfall been this winter that it is speculated that some of the rivers will continue to flow until June. Pictured below the Asprokremmis Dam near Paphos overflows this year.

A Ukrainian ConnectionDirect weekly flights between Paphos and Kiev are due to commence in April. With this in mind, representatives of the local tourist industry ventured to the Ukraine to take part in a tourist exhibition, with the aim of encouraging more Ukrainians to visit Paphos. The head of the Paphos regional board of tourism Nassos Hadjigeorgiou said “I am going to represent the local board along with a number of Paphos hoteliers,” he said.

The delegation will also participate in a workshop organised by a Ukrainian tour operator, who will be operating the new flights to and from Paphos this coming summer. “This is a positive development for Paphos and will open up the Ukrainian market,” said Hadjigeorgiou. The new tour operator will offer charter flights to passengers travelling between Paphos and Kiev once a week. According to Hadjigeorgiou, the number of visitors arriving from the Ukraine is steadily increasing. “In this positive climate we need to translate our actions into actual arrivals of guests,” he said.

The weekly direct flights are planned to commence on April 28 and will continue until the first week of November.

A Touch of ClassPaphos being a tourist area has many talented musicians and vocalist living and working here fulfilling the needs of hotels, bars and restaurants. In general they aim at the popular end of the market with everything from Karaoke, Pop, Rock, C & W etc. Every now and then a new (to Cyprus) entertainer turns up that is 'different'. Tina Chester is certainly different to the run of the mill entertainer in Paphos, this classically trained singer is relatively new to Cyprus but has built a big reputation as a versatile vocalist covering operatic arias, songs from the musicals and standards.

She has already performed in exclusive venues in Cyprus and her repertoire covers operatic arias and classic songs in French, Italian, German, Spanish and Latin. In 2011 she covered Barbara Streisand songs in the successful Rat Pack Tour and has been booked to perform as a wedding ceremony singer for a number of weddings across the island.

If your musical tastes are on the more refined side, you may find her performances a refreshing change from the norm. You can see Tina at the Kamares Club on Friday 20th April. Full details from www.in-any-event.biz

A Dream In The MakingIn the early 1990′s the members Latin Catholic Parish of Paphos had a dream and that was to build a purpose built Hospice in Paphos. A plot of land was sought and eventually purchased by the parish in the village of Mesa Chorio, a quiet rural area just outside of Paphos town. In Cyprus these things rarely happen fast and planning permission was finally granted and the go ahead given to start the St Michael's Hospice project in 2004.

With the tremendous support from parishioners, local people and tourists alike the parish have over the years raised an amazing sum of over €1.5million. This has meant the building of the hospice was done in stages, as the money raised became available each stage of the building was completed. It has been a long and sometimes difficult road with progress at times seeming painfully slow, but now with the building completed there is a new vigour about the project as finally the end is in sight.

The current phase of the project is the fittings and fixtures and the final commissioning of the building. But a hospice is more than just a building, there is now the licensing of the building and all the governmental approvals that this will entail, the Health Ministry, the Fire Department et al, all have to be satisfied before the end of this long road has been reached and much of the work being done at the moment is happening in the halls of power rather than on the building site.

When open the Hospice will have 9 double bedrooms and offer free palliative care to all those in need, regardless of nationality, race, religion or the nature of the illness. Complementary facilities including hydrotherapy, physiotherapy and day care will be available. In addition it will have reception and dining facilities, a comfortable lounge, roof garden and terrace and a chapel.

Out & AboutA Flavour of Paphos in Pictures

At last spring is in the air, the sun is shining and we have been out in force at several excellent events during March.

At Eléa Estates Golf Club we were treated to an elegant evening of fine food, fine wine and wonderful music from Tina Chester a singer new to Cyprus but rapidly gaining a following on the island. It was a chance to dress up in our Sunday best and posh frocks to enjoy an evening of sofistication, very different from the usual attire of shorts and T shirts. (www.in-any-event.biz)

The Cancer Patients Support Group (Paphos) organised a Rock 'N Roll night at the Markideion Theatre in Paphos. It was a tremendous night with the best of classic 50's rock & roll performed by Andreas Morelli, Andy Hobbs & Steve Fury backed by a great bunch of musicians led by Andrew Oliver on piano.

What's On with JezebelI never believed it would happen this year but the sun has arrived, and while so far nobody's been brave enough to stage an outdoor event there are plans afoot for Amphitheatre concerts and hotels and taverns are thinking about dragging the deck chairs out of storage.

Hotels are opening and entertainers are starting to lose that panicked, starved look as they snap up the regular bookings, and event planners are beginning to organise more specialised events, with some live bands in varying genres including Rock n Roll and C & W, and more Rat Pack shows - one tour for May includes a sixteen piece orchestra.

On Rock FM, things are beginning to hot up for the Summer and if you haven't heard the new daytime line-up now it's about time you tuned in - Tony Newell is still King of the early mornings but Bejay & Jason then keep us going til 2pm - give them a try on 98.5 FM Pafos, 106.7 for Polis or www.rockfmcyprus.com anywhere.
