INLANDREPORT
ATLANTICSALMON StockingUpdate DEEPstockedanother600Atlanticsalmonthisweek.Thesefish
werereleasedintotheShetucketRiver(300salmon)andtheupper(150salmon)andlower(150salmon)
sections
of
the
Naugatuck
River.
These
stockings
bring
the
total
number
of
salmon
stocked
so
far
this
fall
to
approximately1,200fishwithCrystalLake(100salmon)MountTomPond(100salmon),theupperNaugatuck
River(250salmon),lowerNaugatuckRiver(250salmon)andShetucketRiver(500salmon)allstockedatleast
once.
ThegroupofAtlanticsalmonbeingreleasedthisweekforthefisheryrangeinweightfrom26poundseach.
Followingspawninglaterthisfall,DEEPexpectsseveralhundredadditionalsalmonfromtheKensington
HatcherywillbeavailableforstockinginNovember.Thesefishwillrangeinweightfrom3to15poundseach.

trophyand
adult
sized
trout
into
selected
waters
throughout
the
state.
Approximately
12,800
are
trophy
size
browntrout(allgreaterthan12inchesinlength)andtheremaining16,200adultsarestandardsize(910inch)
rainbowtrout.InwesternCT,stockingsofthetrophyandadultsizedtroutwerecompletedlastweekwithover
8,100browntrout(includingthepreLaborDaystockingsoftheWestbranchFarmingtonandFarmington
rivers)and8,700rainbowstocked.IneasternCT,stockingswillresumeinmidOctober.Sofar4,800brown
troutand2,000rainbowtrouthavebeenstocked.DEEPexpectstostockanadditional5,500
rainbowtroutintoatotalof15lakesandpondsduringmidOctober.

Branch
flowsareclearandveryfishable(currently143cfsatRivertonwiththeStillRiveraddinganother35cfs)and
watertemperaturesareinthelow60sF.
Hatches/patternsincludeIsonychiabicolor(majorhatch,#1214,fastwater,afternoon/evening),BlueWingOlives(Drunella&Baetissps.,#18,2224,midlateafternoon),Caddis(tan#1618,allday;green#2226,evening;summerpupa#1820morning),Midges(#2024,morning),BlackAnts(#1420,middayinfastwater),
BlackBeetles(#1618,midday),FlyingAnts(#1826,midday,whenwindy/humid)andStoneHopper(#1012,
midday).RustySpinners(#1826)willproduceintheevening.
HousatonicRiverFishinghasbeenverygoodwithanumberofbiggerfishbeingcaught.Conditionsshouldbe
goodfortheupcomingweekend.Flowsareclearandfishable,buthavedropbelowtypicalearlyfalllevels

and

at
Gaylordsville)
and
morning
water
temperatures
are
in
the
mid
toupper50sF.

Zoar,BlackPond(Meriden),GriggsPond,RoselandLake,WinchesterLake,WestTwinLake,SilverLake

CONNECTICUTRIVER
FlowscontinuetobeattypicalearlyOctoberlevels,andverycomfortableforfishing.NORTHERNPIKEfishing
isgood
in
the
coves
up
and
down
the
river.
Fish
have
been
found
in
Wethersfield
Cove,
the
Middletown
and
HaddamMeadowsareas.CHANNELCATFISHcontinuetobecaughtintheriveratnightliveliningsunfish.
LARGEMOUTHBASSintheHaddamareaaregivinganglerssomegoodaction.SMALLMOUTHBASScontinue
tobeactiveintheupperpartoftheriver.TheEnfieldtoWindsor/Hartfordhasbeenproductivewithfishinthe
midteensbeingcaught.BLACKCRAPPIEareproducingsomegoodcatchesintherivercoves.Wethersfield
Covecontinuestobeaverygoodareatotarget.Useasmalljigtippedwith2shinersforsomeaction.One
anglerreportedgoodcatcheson1/16oztubejigs.

regattaonSunday,October6(8am4pm)andSunday,August18(8am4pm)ontheCTRiverinHartford
fromRiversideParktojustupstreamoftheentrancetoWethersfieldCove.Boattravelthroughthecourse
areawillbedifficultduringtheraceevents,useextracautionoravoidthearea.
LAKELILLINONAH(boatlaunch). TheLakeLillinonahstateboatlaunch(Route133,alsoreferredtoasthe
SteelBridgelaunch)isclosedforrenovations.ThisclosureiscurrentlyexpectedtolastthroughDecember
31,2013.Anglers/boaterscancontinuetoaccessthelakeusingthePondBrookstateboatlaunch.
ROGERSLAKE. Thelakeiscurrently(asof10/1)drawndownapproximately15inchestofacilitatedam
repairs.Thelaunchingoftraileredboatsmaybedifficultatthislevelofdrawdownandthelaunchmaybeunusablebylargerboatsorthosewithdeeperdraft.Notethatrefillhasbegunbutmaybeslow,therateof
refillisdependentonrainfallamountsinthewatershed.
WESTBRANCHRESERVOIR(HogbackReservoir). TheWestBranchReservoirisbeingdrawndown70feetto
facilitateaninspectionofColebrookRiverLakeoutflowstructures(asof10/2,downapproximately25feet).

Atlanticsalmonfishingregulationsandareassummary
RegulationsforAtlanticsalmonontheShetucketandNaugatuckRivers.IntheNaugatuck,HousatonicandShetucketRivers,thedailycreellimitforAtlanticsalmonisonefishperdaythroughSeptember30,2013.FromOctober1
throughNovember30,anglingforAtlanticsalmonisrestrictedtocatchandreleaseonly.FromDecember1,2013,
throughMarch31,2014,thedailycreellimitforAtlanticsalmonwillbeone. Duringtheopenseasonintherivers,
thelegalmethodfortakingAtlanticsalmonislimitedtoanglingusingasinglefly,oranartificiallurewithasingle
freeswinging
hook
and
no
additional
weight
can
be
added
to
the
line
above
the
fly
or
lure.
Also,
from
October
1
st
throughMarch31st,fishingforotherspeciesinthedesignatedAtlanticSalmonBroodstockAreasisrestrictedto
thegearlegalforAtlanticsalmon.
OntheShetucketRiver,anglerscanfishforsalmondownstreamfromtheScotlandDam(Windham)totheWaterStreetBridgeinNorwich(thefirstbridgeupstreamofNorwichHarbor).Thesalmonarestockedintoonedesignated
AtlanticSalmonBroodstockArea,fromtheScotlandDamtotheOccumDam.
AnglersareallowedtofishforsalmonintheNaugatuckRiverfromtheconfluenceoftheEastandWestBranches(Torrington)downstreamtotheHousatonicRiver(Derby).AnglersmayalsofishforAtlanticsalmonintheHousatonic
RiverdownstreamofDerbyDam.ThesalmonaretypicallystockedintotwodesignatedAtlanticSalmonBroodstock
AreasontheNaugatuckRiver,theCampvilleSectionoftheupperNaugatuckRiverfromRoute118downstreamto
theThomastonFloodControlDam(LitchfieldThomaston)andtheBeaconFallsSectionofthelowerNaugatuck,from
ProspectStreet(Naugatuck)downstreamtoPinesBridgeRoad(Route42bridge,BeaconFalls).FromOctober1st

fishing
for
other

these
designated
