The Damen Shipyards Group has successfully delivered over two hundred fishing vessels to customers all over the world.

Damen has gained an excellent reputation over the years designing, engineering and constructing fishing vessels. These vessels cover a wide variety of applications and fishing methods.

Damen’s focus on standardisation is undoubtedly one of our fundamentalcorporate values. In 1969, Jan Damen handed the reins over to his son Kommer Damen. The modular building concept was one of the first initiatives Kommer Damen introduced after listening carefully to client feedback.

Four decades ago the standardisation concept was totally new in the shipbuilding industry and even today it is unique. In each of our niche markets – from tugboats to combi freighters – Damen has developed a standard range.However, although these vessels are based on a standard design, they can be equipped with a large range of options to meet specific customer requirements. Our standard designs can be tailor-made according to customer wishes or we can of course start from scratch to design a unique vessel. All of these options are no problem with Damen’s far-reaching capabilities.

WIDE RANGE OF STANDARD PARTS AND COMPONENTS IN STOCK

Damen understands the dual importance of both good labour conditions on board and the quality of the catch. This can be seen in the introduction of the ‘cold chain’ on board smaller vessels and efficient processing on larger vessels.

Damen Shellfish Dredger – diesel electric, energy saving, environmentally friendly and controlled by one or two persons for all operations. The whole vessel is electrically driven, including the two azimuth thrusters and two fishing winches, which operate the dredges. Processing on board includes washing and packing. The hold floor is above the waterline and enables easy relaying of the shellfish.

Many years of research have also led to some truly pioneering designs such as the Sea Axe and the ACES.

All Damen vessels benefit from knowledge gathered during ongoing research programmes within the group. The Damen Twin Rigger/Fly Shooter is a vessel ideal for fishing with the ‘Snurrevaed’ method. This is a special method which significantly reduces the requirement to drag the net through the water, allowing the use of a smaller engine. The Damen Twin Rigger/Fly Shooter is the perfect vessel for fishing according to this method because of its high manoevrability and manageable size.

The Damen Shellfish Dredger is a highly manoevrable vessel and can be equipped to harvest mussels, oysters and razor shells and transport them alive and undamaged for reseeding or processing. Specially designed to work in shallow waters, whilst still providing excellent seakeeping characteristics, these vessels can operate in tidal areas using the tide times to the max.

Designed with a shallow draught these vessels are the best to harvest all types of shellfish in estuary and coastal areas.

Fishery Research Vessels are a necessary tool in establishing sustainable fishing operations and fish stock management.

Damen has supplied more than 8,000 propeller nozzles to customers worldwide, with diameters ranging from 500 up to 7,000 mm. Besides propeller nozzles, Damen produces all types of rudders based on our own or submitted designs. Additionally, Damen supplies a wide range of other marine components. High quality, reliability and short lead times combined with competitive prices are the guiding principles of Damen. All products are manufactured at our own, strategically located production facilities in the Netherlands, Poland and China.

Damen develops and supplies the best propeller nozzle types to optimise the capacity of every type of vessel. We have developed several propeller nozzle types in-house: Optima, Wing and the VG40. Together with type 19A we have the optimal nozzles for every customer.
