What a great week, with temperatures in the 30s a couple of the mornings and more than our normal share of wind, the temperatures got up into the 70s during the day. This was ideal for the morning walkers, the afternoon sewing activities and the board games. One of the fisherman noticed 30 to 40 small ducks approximately 250 yards away, that became startled and took flight directly toward him. The ducks had noticed a bald eagle approaching. The eagle circled twice and dropped to the edge of the water approximately 6 feet from the shore. The eagle caught a large fish, too large to fly with so it did his best to drag the fish to shore and proceeded to have lunch. By the way, the eagle was more successful than the many of our fisherman. Betty and Larry hosted a great camp out. A few volunteers are still needed for the fall feast, November 3. George will also provide an update on the city’s plans for upcoming construction at the lake that will raise the height of the dam, and allow for more water storage, and an increased fishing area. Lake Wohlford is one of two public fishing lakes in the City of Escondido’s water storage system.

    LAKE HEMET CAMPOUT

Hosted by Betty and Larry Allen, this was a fun trip close to home. Cold at night and sometimes windy.

Otherwise better weather than most of our trips there. Food was great as usual and lots of fun activities.

A large variety of fish were caught including bass, bluegill and catfish. The jackpot went to ...you

guessed it: Warren Estes. Congratulations Warren!

It’s a fun and busy time of year. Be sure to add one or all of these events to your holiday calendar.

    Fall Feast

Thursday, November 3 Come join us for a great turkey-with-all-the-trimmings meal, a Pumpkin Dessert contest and a fun White Elephant Sale. This event will be at the home of Jimmy Eghaneyan and Fariba Talebi. The address is 916 North avenue in Escondido. It’s real easy to get to, just follow North Broadway to North Avenue and turn right. The cost is $5 per person. What a deal!

November 30 Our annual trip to the Viejas Casino has had a great response. We have met our minimum goal for the bus. Thanks to all who signed up to support this event. For those of you that haven't joined us in previous years, there is lots of shopping at the Outlet Store across from the Casino and of course some good places to eat at the Casino. We still have room if you didn’t sign-up and would like to go, see Bar-bara Gattuso at the next meeting or the Fall Feast.

don’t have your picture in this year’s Directory, please e-mail me or bring me a picture of you and/or you

will take pictures. Another good place to have your picture taken is at our Holiday Party in December

when you are dressed up in your holiday attire.

    GREETERS

Lastly, a big huge thanks to all my Greeters in 2016. You were a tremendous help to me. For those who

have not been a Greeter in the past, PLEASE consider being one for 2017. You help me by meeting new

potential members at the door and showing them around the various tables which includes upcoming

events, opportunity raffle, etc. It only takes a little of your time prior to the meeting starting and helps

guests feel welcome. The sign-up sheet for 2017 Greeters will be available at the next meeting.
