Construction
Control joints controlling wall movement shall be
achieved by providing a bond break between blocks and
mortar at the specified locations.
Installation
At each control joint a thin layer of suitable polythene
tape or similar shall be placed on top and at ends of each
unit covering at least 75% of its width.
The polythene layer must cover any cavities within
the units.
Mortar shall then be placed on the horizontal bed and
the end of the unit to be laid.
Location
Control joints shall be located at edges of windows
closest to 4.0m intervals on each wall.
Windows exceeding 2.0m in width shall have a control
joint at each end.
High windows of less than 800mm deep can be excluded.
Spacing on plain walls shall not exceed 4.0m.
Application
This alternative control joint is suitable for all Firth
brick veneers.
